Album Title: Danny Frankel’s 3rd Ear experience.
Label: Space Rock Productions
cat. no.: SRP074CD
release date: 1st October 2021
formats: 1CD
November 11th, 2020 the year of six feet apart, a brutal summer behind us, the desert haboob’s dust long settled, the big lying brat in the white house won’t let go, an icy wind blowing soft and low, vaxxers and anti vaxxers, masked bandits and shopping carts, all the stages gone dark, all eyes wide open and shut six feet apart.
On a cool but sunny winters day we gathered at the FurstWurld Gallery, each in his own bubble reflecting, dreams six feet apart, Hutch from Joshua Tree setup the studio with great mics and methods of placements, you see, Hutch was Kyuss’s and Queens of the Stone Age's live sound guy and since we wanted to capture a true live sound, this made sense.
This was Danny Frankel's first time having a 3rd Ear Experience. We had ideas, but no maps, we brought in Trevor Madison who had never played keys before, never played in a rock band, we counted in the first jam, not in numbers, but in colors, and so began the collaboration with Danny, and the ghosts of Covid roamed far from the haunted house, and we, warmly safe and sealed in by the desert, filled the great silver quonset hut of the world with music, far from the madding crowd, six feet apart. - go!
3rd ear Experience had two American tours set up before the year of 6ft apart. They had also just finished setting up at Star Lane Studios in Joshua Tree to begin working on a new album when the lock down came down - so they tore the studio down, packed up and went home. During those dark times Danny Frankel one of the most treasured drummer/percussionist in America and Robbi had been sending each other links to music and music videos of live performances etc. This of course was driving them mad with desire to make music. Then in October 2020 they called it and surrendered and began plotting ideas for a new album. Hutch of Joshua tree was brought in to set up a recording studio in the FurstWurld Gallery. Here was enough space to be 6 feet apart, masked, and still be in the same room to record. So then began the first musical collaboration between 3rd Ear Experience and Danny Frankel.
Happy that Space rock Productions is once again the label getting behind the album.
This album will be released October 1st 2021 on CD and digitally, but as soon as possible on Vinyl in 2022.

First collaboration with Dr Space, EAR TO SPACE
This album was created out of series of jam sessions. Basic mixes were sent to Dr Space, who then, jammed along as if he was playing with the band, the files were sent to Robbi, who then mixed, added a few overdubs and the magic was created. For Side D, the opposite happened and Dr Space created the basic tracks and 3rd ear jammed along. So what does it sound like?? Space rock with a cool ethnic or electronic vibe at times. Side A and B are more rocking while side C and D are more ambient and spaced out trips featuring Glissando guitars, with treated flutes and Mizmar sounds from an old guitar synth.
Musicians on this Album
Bass – Jorge Bassman Carrillo,
Drums – Richard Stuverud
Guitar - Robbi Robb,
Keyboards, Middle Earth vocals, Kyminy – Amritakripa
Saxophone, B3 - John Whoolilurie.,
Synths - Dr Space
Ambient and Glissando Guitar - Eric Ryan
Percussion - Ryan post
We are pleased to anounce that the new album is now in the final stages of mixing. Tentative title for the album is STONED GOLD
The album will be released with the book that Robbi wrote called THE ART OF THE JAM BAND - a book about the intricacies of playing improvisational music with a full band. This book will be inspiring to both musicians and fans of jam music. Originally written as an inspirational letter or manifesto for his own band members, it has since become an inspiration for many others.
We are glad that Space Rock Productions will be pressing vinyl once again for us, and negotiations are underway as to how to release the cd, vinyl and book. We are proud to be part of Space rock Productions and look forward to this release with them.

Regarding the name of the album.
Whenever I think of feathers I think of Janis Joplin on the cover of her album Pearl, one of the greatest rock albums of our time, burning with the spirit-fire of rock music. And then we have one of the greatest rock and roll bands of all time, the Rolling Stones. Their name comes from the saying, “a rolling stone gathers no moss" - which cautions us to never be stagnant, to never stay in one place for too long, to keep moving to new ground. This is the true spirit of rock and roll. Janis and the Stones were, as we say, “birds of a feather”. They burned with the same fire.
So in keeping with the ever evolving fire spirit of rock, we decided to call our new album – STONES OF A FEATHER.
Stones of a Feather was recorded in one weekend at the Furstwurld Gallery in Joshua tree on the outskirts of the Mojave desert. This, the 3rd album recorded in the gallery, is in many ways a live album, with very few overdubs. Each piece was played live and recorded in one or two takes only.
There was only one preconceived notion: we wanted to incorporate in the music the concepts of free jazz as brought to us by Ornette Coleman, but to keep it sounding like rock music. And so the only thing that was discussed was what Ornette Coleman said to his players. This concept set fire to our imaginations, and we hope you too will “feel the burn”
Thank you for your continued support.
3rd Ear Experience.
We are excited to announce that the new 3rd Ear Experience album is in the final stages of production. We expect to be sending it out to press and social outlets by the 15th of September. The album will be released during the first week of November. It will be available in high quality audio i.e. 24bit/96k for those of you who have access to high-res audio players and streaming services like Neil Young's Pono Player or Sony’s Xperia Z3 or hi-res streaming such as Qobuz. Obviously the main benefit of high-resolution audio files is superior sound quality over compressed audio formats. It will also be available on cd, vinyl and on the Itunes hi res formats.
Check out our facebook page for exciting documentation of the making of the album.
3rd Ear Experience will be touring America – mainly the west coast - in October 2016, and will be on a full European tour in Sept 2017.
The Robb&Pott collaboration album, 'Once Upon the Wings', is now available on cd and download. Purple Vinyl will be released through Nasoni records in September of 2016.

Promoter : Which band are you from?
Robbi: 3rd Ear experience
Promoter: Ah, I have heard the rumor of this band
Robbi: and what rumor is that?
Promoter: you guys are the secret headliners.
Huge gratitude goes out to Matte and Kat of Sound of Liberation and especially to Mario Lalli of Fatso Jetson who organized such a smooth flowing European tour which included 3rd Ear Experience, Fatso Jetson and Fever Dog. 3rd Ear Experience, more than blowing audiences away with their brand of ‘desert space rock’ also blew the minds of many local promoters. This is not that easy, as promoters see many great bands year in and year out. Apart from the fact that we sold out all cd’s and vinyl within the first few days, it was overall a very successful tour and a great adventure.
Special thanks go out to the members of Glowsun who welcomed 3rd Ear Experience onto the last 10 days of their tour. These guys are real gentlemen, extremely professional and always very encouraging. We hope to bring them out to the desert someday.
Works in Progress:
We are happy to announce that we have 2 shows recorded in full quality 24 tracks and about five shows filmed with 8 Hd cameras which includes the epic performance at the Keep it Low festival. Our tour as part of the desert package with Fatso Jetson and Fever Dog went exceptionally smooth. The audiences loved our music. This is great news for us because we were wondering how the music from albums would translate live – well we were pleasantly surprised. The only bummer was that we sold out of vinyls and cd’s in the first week of the tour – we had no idea the response to our music would be so positive so we erred on the side of caution.
The GlowSun part of the tour was such fun; those guys are hilarious, great artists and smart people. It was a pleasure to meet them and to get to hear their music every night.
Anyhow there are many cool video clips for those of you who couldn’t attend the shows – maybe next time. Here are a few I like.

Proud to announce that our album Incredible Good Fortune has made it onto the Best Album of the month charts in the Eclipsed magazine in February and March 2015.
Matte From Sound of Liberation sent a lovely congratulations note to the band saying he loves the new record and would be interested in sharing some ideas of touring us in Europe. Of course we would be honored to work with Matte in any capacity. We trust that he will get back to us as soon as he has something concrete. We are however still looking for a smaller upcoming booking agent to work with us on a ground level touring plan in Europe and ‘Merica. So if you have any ideas please forward this EPK to the person or persons. Thanks.
Our debut Album Peacock Black is in the test pressing stages of becoming a vinyl release. A fan of the band took the initiative; went ahead and gathered money from 3rd Ear Experience fans in a kick starter styled campaign and has generated enough money to make this album and release it. Well done Bruno!!
Amritakripa’s new world music/dance album will be ready in May just in time for the Bhakti Fest where once again kripa’s band will be handling the midnight headlining slot.
In mid April Robbi and Kripa will be putting on the final touches to LILA the space rock opera/ballet. This project has been in the making for 5 years. We are hoping to debut this little rock ballet at the Joshua Tree Music festival at midnight as soon as it is ready. Check out the Blog. The making of this album has been documented on film from the very first day the first lyric and melody was written for the very first song. All videos are posted on the blog of the whole concept and process http://www.robbirobb.com/blog/?p=9
Paul Pott of the Space Invaders and Robbi are slowly working on a space rock album over the web. One song called Looney tunes was written when Robbi was a teenager. 2 songs were written by Allen Rosenberg of the famous new age band Peach. Robbi has always been a great admirer of Allen’s song writing skills and now he gets to cover some of them in his own way with Paul Pott handling the engineering and mixing. Paul has sent his first composition on bass and drums for Robbi to lay down guitar tracks – this is going to be fun – all proceeds go to buying a Golden Kakhuis!
The Asylum Kids, Robb’s rebel post punk band, will be re-uniting to tour South Africa in June and July of 2015. Theo Crous of the Springbok Nude Girls has offered to mix some of the new Asylum Kids Tracks recorded at the Star Lane Studios in Joshua Tree.
Robbi, Kripa and Jorge are excited to jump into recording with new friend and drummer Jonathan Saxon. Check out Jonathan’s resume and you will understand why. It will be the first time Robbi gets to work with a drummer who knows and understands African drumming as well as, or if not more than Robbi – this is going to be a knockout session!
Lastly Robbi has been in a studio for the last 2 months recording and co creating an album for Trevor Green. In good ol robbi style he had a remote studio set up in a large stone house in the Mojave desert where they did all their tracking – Some excellent players were brought in including Dug Pinnick on 12 string bass, Danny Frankel on drums and percussion and Jonathan Saxon on drums and things that go ting!
and that's that and that's that!
