Oh the many voices of Cheekz. This artist/songwriter from California has graced the music world with a very versitile style of music that brings together a fusion of reggae, dancehall and soul. She has a diverse music expression that is not just limited to the genres mentioned here. Her music and performance background extends itself into genres such as rock, pop, as well as jazz and Latin music. Her families history in music stems back, as far back as the 1930's. She has inherited a natural songwriting gift that proves strong and shows that she is an artist to be watched. She is a natural talent.
Ms. Cheekz was known for being multi talented at an early age. She excelled in many areas of the arts. In grade school she received many awards for her skiills in areas of drawing and painting and even spelling. At the age of 16 she painted a mural that recieved the cities "Beautification Award" from the mayor of Los Angeles. She excelled in dance throughout grade school as well. She participated in countless plays, talent shows and dance contest in which she would often win first place. Her stage performance continued on into adulthood. For over 13 years she studied various forms of dance such as jazz, african, and latin dances from around the world. She studied under the instruction of instructors such as Madonna Grimes, Nzinga Camara, Lula Washington, Mareme Faye, Rwanda Lewis and many more. In the 1990's she danced with various dance troops that performed throughout California. It wasn't until 2011 that she branched out into the music world.
Cheekz set off on her journey in music in January 2011, after she stepped in the studio to record for the first time. Within the weeks, she had written an impressive amount of original songs and had also began recording them. She began recording songs that, she says were already written in her memory from many years ago. One of her first recordings, also became one of her most popular. Her first releases on Youtube, reached over 10,000 views in the first few weeks and continues to gain new viewers daily. The YouTube release of "Hot Sound" on the Bam Bam Sequel Riddim, to date has received over 50,000 views and continues to grow in popularity around the globe. Her recent release of her first soca record on the Magaroze riddim continues to grow in popularity and shows her ability to deliver a diverse mix of songwriting, the public wants to hear. Reggae music song writng is not just this artist specialty. She also has the ability to contribute to genres such as pop, rock, jazz and country.
Her fan base has been strong and continuously growing since her online presence began in 2002. Today her fan base online continues to grow throughout the nation as well as internationally. When ever released, her music, as well as her images seem to draw countless views. She is proving to be a marketable entity that is also profitable in every thing she touches. She has been successfull in branding the Cheekz name through various business ventures that has also brought the spolight on this artist and entreprenuer.
