Cupcake is:
Marc Darnell - Guitar and Vocals
Shardy Darnell - Guitar and Vocals
Kiley Bodenhammer - Bass
Jeff Jensen - Drums
Cupcake was formed during the winter of 2005 by Marc Darnell, Shardy Darnell, and Jeff Jensen. The name of the band actually came from a stupid contract between Jeff and Marc. Marc and Shardy were married at the time and had been playing music together for quite a few years. Marc and Jeff were presently playing together in a band called The Rogers. The Rogers were not playing out enough for Marc and Jeff's tastes, so Jeff pretty much moved in with Marc and Shardy and started turning Marc's crazy riffs into songs. Cupcake wrote an album's worth of material, had a revolving door of bass players, and gathered a following from countless shows in they're hometown of St. Joseph, MO. For some reason, the band took a 3 year hiatus from 2008 to 2011. During which time, Marc and Shardie were divorced. Instead of hindering Cupcake, this actually added a strange new dynamic level to the band. Upon returning to the scene, Cupcake enlisted the skills of former Roger's bass player Kiley Bodenhammer, and have been making music in they're own unconventional way since.
Putting four people together with such a wide range of influences has given Cupcake a strange, hard to describe, genre-bending sound. They have been compared to: The Pixies, Sunny Day Real Estate, Shudder to Think, Frank Zappa...etc. The only way to truly appreciate what Cupcake does as a band is too see it live.
