By day, Colin Henry (DJ V-Step), age 23, is an unassuming martial arts instructor. However, as the sun dips below the horizon, he emerges as a promising young talent in the electronic music scene.
A DJ since age 16 and hailing from the shores of San Francisco, you'll find him playing alongside local icons such as DJ E-Rock, DJ Weapon, John Beaver, Audio1, and others. In 2012, he turned to production 6 months ago to enhance his sets, and instantly fell in love. His mashups and bootlegs have seen support from DJ Chuckie, Tiesto, Porter Robinson, Laidback Luke, X-Vertigo, 3LAU, and many more. After finding increasing success with his mashups, V-Step released a solo experimental EP, "Let The Beat Drop," under the alias of Venatti, in April 2013, signed with UK based Vinyl Related Records, taking his productions to the next level. The EP quickly became one of the labels best releases of 2013, with the lead track featured on their compilation album 'Elektronik Shox' released early summer 2013.
His latest single offering, 'Take It,' released for free in April, is a collaboration between himself and fellow California producer Adaptr, combining a hard bassline and drums with uplifting and emotional synthesizers. Its catchy rolls and twisting, turning and feel-good melodies have made 'Take It' a local club favorite.
Following in the success of these releases, V-Step returned to his roots as "a DJ first and foremost" as a resident DJ at San Francisco's 'The Cellar', one of the most well-known nightclubs in the area. Every week for a year, Monday and Tuesday nights, V-Step would be found entertaining crowds from all around the world. His vast musical taste crosses all genres, with his sets always packed with energy. On July 18, 2014, this energy made its way to a debut performance at the world famous SupperClub San Francisco, solidifying V-Step as a force to be reckoned with.
On July 4, 2014, V-Step released his latest masterpiece, 'Somedays.' The 50-minute mix, recorded live in Los Angeles, takes listeners on an unfiltered journey through his best mashups, bootlegs and remixes. He described is as "a set that is perfect, that I wouldn't want to change, and that I wanted to share with everybody." It continues to recieve high praise to this day.
With another EP due in late 2014, a collaboration with Michigan-based producer Centriptic in the works, and his unwavering passion for all things EDM, V-Step is set to continue his rise among dance music's youngest and most talented producers and DJ's.
