JHarmony by: SWAG Magazine writer Tee Renee
“The main thing we do in life is try to keep a balance…”Not often do we hear teenagers speak about being balanced, something that most adults have trouble with maintaining. However, JHarmony are two teenagers who have figured it out! Jazzmin, 17 and Janae, 16, spoke to me about how they got started singing and writing, maintain good grades in school, family life and just being regular teenagers, all by staying focused on their goals and not allowing peer pressure to knock them off track. I asked them to give me a little insight and advice on how they stay so balanced and here’s what they said: prioritize, never give up, and stay positive! Now if that isn’t a recipe for success, I don’t know what is.
Like most of the superstars we have all come to know and love, JHarmony too, got their start singing as soon as words and melodies could escape their mouths. Their father was also a musician and used to have them sing together all the time. Back then it was like playtime for them. But one day, Janae was watching a movie on the hit boy group, Mindless Behavior, and she said to herself, “I want to do this!” She ran and told her mom and sister about this new decision. Jazzmin wasn’t quite on board at first, claiming herself as the “shy” one, but decided in the end that if this is what her sister wanted, she would join forces with her and see what happened.
Their mom, Keturah, who also serves as their manager, was immediately on board and supportive because she believed in her daughter’s dream and set out to help make that happen. It was at the age of around 10 or 11 when they decided to make this dream a professional one so they began to write songs and perfect their craft. They work together as a team to develop the music and make sure to keep the theme on a positive note making their own mark in the world.
Gaining their inspiration from groups like TLC, Beyoncé and Fantasia JHarmony decided they wanted to break from the norm of what teenagers are singing about today and inspire others with their music.
Their upcoming single, Goals, gives you a clear insight to the level head these young ladies have; as a result of two amazing parents teaching them and allowing their voices to carry that out. The message in this song encourages teenagers to never steer away from having the freedom to achieve their goals, to never let anyone tell you what you can and cannot do and that if you stay on the course you can and will accomplish everything you desire.
They believe that music has the power to move you in ways other things can’t. Their mission is to do the same with their own music. Learning early that greatness isn’t defined by just one accomplishment; the girls of JHarmony have a few other goals outside of music. Jasmine is getting ready to attend college and major in Psychology, with hopes of one day working with children or lending her knowledge and education to the FBI and helping them figure out the minds of the people they deal with every day. Janae has her sights set on becoming a lawyer, a criminal defense attorney at that, a dream she’s always had and gained even more of a desire for it from watching shows like Law and Order.
Refreshing is the word that comes to mind when I think of all the amazing attributes these young ladies possess. They are definitely ones to keep your eyes on. Excited about finally releasing their first single, Goals, along with an accompanying video, JHarmony is ready to take the world by storm with their beautiful voices, positive lyrics and all around great attitudes. We too are excited here at SWAG Magazine CA – The People’s Magazine and feel extremely privileged to contribute to their journey to the top.
