Getting To Know Raptress Couture
November 5, 2018
Please tell are reader who is Jay Couture?
I'm officially going by Couture now. I'm the 5'2 southern beast, a woman with a passion and a heart that desires to do whatever it takes to get there. I'm a hard worker and I don't let anything get in my way of what I'm trying to do.
The virgin vixen as some would call it. The go-getter. I mean I wear so many hats, Couture is whomever she wants or needs to be. I created Couture without limitations.... the girl with no limits, no restrictions, and I barely take no for an answer.
You recently drop your mixtape 1997 back in the summertime. How was the reception on you first full mixtape?
I think the tape did well. I mean I had so many people put they all into my project. S/o to the whole team, Christie, JHardman, Kirk, Erica and so many more helped bring this idea to life. I'm very proud of the response it's been getting, but this is only the beginning. We have SO many other ideas about to come to light. 1997 was the warn-up, I'm really going to take over.
How long did it take you to make the mixtape?
It took me a full day to complete the tape. I had the concept in my head and took it from there.
Why did you entitled your mixtape 1997?
1997 was an important year in hip-hop and also I was born in 97. It made sense to make my first tape after the year I was born and to also honor and pay respect to the ones' before me.
Did you have any concern before the official released of the mixtape?
Of course. This was my first project ever, so I had a lot going on. I didn't know if people would understand what I was trying to do by attacking so many older beats. I'm glad I did it that way though.
What is your favorite song off of 1997? and Why?
My favorite song....hmm that's kind of hard. I do love Ambitionz as a Ridah just because it reflected on a lot of the troubles as an upcoming female artist. I'm not gonna lie, Still not A Player is a vibe though lol.
Tell us about your new visual for Still Not A Player? How did the concept come about and Why did you select that song to do a visual for?
I was exploring my female pimp side, if I can sum it up in a sentence. So I wanted to reflect that in the visual as well. The song was a lot of fun to do anyway. S/o to YP for that. He was so dope in the video. I chose that song just because it was a classic and that was one of the songs from the tape that a lot of people responded too. Just wanted to give the people what they asked for.
Would we be getting any other visual from 1997 before the year is out?
1997 may have a few more surprises. Still Not A Player drops 10/31/2018 on Youtube so be on the lookout. I'm releasing my first official single as well titled Snack soon after be on the lookout for that before the year is out!
We've been over the ends and out of 1997
Lets talk about you as a female rapper? How long have you been in the rapper game?
I've been into music for as long as I can even remember. When I was 16, I really started taking music seriously and I've been going ever since. A lot of people refer to me as a female rapper and I don't mind at all, but I do it all. I song-write, sing, rap and then some! I've been a lot more consistent with music since I turned 21 earlier this year, I moved to ATL and been on go!
Who are some of your musical influences?
I have a lot of musical influences. One from every genre I think. I'm in to all types of music. My favorite rapper and someone I really hope to meet one day because he's just a musical genius is Lil Wayne. I grew up off of him and he has always been an inspiration.
What would you say has been an obstacles for you in the music industry?
There are a multitude of obstacles I face everyday, one being a female. I'm always overlooked, or expected to be a certain way. When people hear my music then learn that it's me, they're usually so shocked. I got bars, I got brains and I got the sex appeal, I just don't exploit that part very often. I want people to respect my craft. I'm more than just my body or face. I'm also from a VA where we all get overlooked. Though there have been a lot of trials and tribulations, I'm not going to let anything stop me.
What do you have plan for 2019?
I just hope 2019 is good to me. A lot of great things have been happening, a lot of people starting to notice what's going on. I just hope to keep going forward in 2019.Expanding my brand. Expanding my influence. just expanding in general in all aspects. I plan to keep going harder each and every year. I don't showcase a lot of what is going on within the inside of my business, but just know we are working hard and it's not going unnoticed.
