After years of piano lessons and playing violin in the school orchestra, Kristie Cunningham decided to find her voice, and sing in places other than the shower and the car. She started playing guitar at the tender age of 32 after the first two bands she was in broke up before they ever played out, and it was one the best things she ever did, because it reminded her of this: Being able to make music is magical, and singing is the purest joy she knows. Since then, she has been performing a mix of genre-crossing originals and covers at regional folk festivals, porch fests, benefits, and venues in and around Tucson, AZ, solo and formerly as part of her duo, The Shameless Flirts. She also recently joined retro soul outfit Velvet Inferno as a backup singer. She blogs here and writes poetry here.
I'll be playing from 4-5 p.m. 18 acts will be playing on 9 porches from 4-6 p.m. Plus there will be a kids' porch, and food trucks! C'mon down. The event is FREE, but you might want to bring a little pocket money for the food trucks and tipping the volunteer musicians.
The Vista del Rio Neighborhood is located 2 blocks north of Tanque Verde on Dos Hombres Road (east of Sabino Canyon Rd and just West of Pantano Rd—turn North at the AM/PM).
Every time I've played at WHyld Ass Bisbee, I had a great time, and I'm so excited to be invited to their new location in Flagstaff. I'll be strumming and crooning tunes to eat excellent vegan food to from 5-7 p.m.
A different lineup of 6 singer/songwriters every month showcasing their original work. It's the second Wednesday of the month, so it's time for another exciting concert of original music. The last 3 years have seen 200 different composers grace the Monterey stage. Under our new format you will be treated to 3 different performers doing their original music in a roundrobin format in each of the first two hours, then for the third hour we will feature a single celebrated solo artist with a huge library of original music in their repertoire. This month's December performers will be:
6:00 Kathy Kolmer, Dennis Pepe, Kristie Cunningham 7:00 Petie Ronstadt, Jamie Anderson, Pablo Peregrina 8:00 Featured Performer, Sabra Faulk
This will be a fun night. Reservations are always encouraged at 207-2429. Live music, a fire in the fireplace, comfort food, and a good drink- what more can you ask for?
Zoo Lights @ Reid Park Zoo, with Saint Augustine
Dec, 23 06:00 PM
I'll be singing a few songs with Saint Augustine, some holiday tunes and some not. Come enjoy the beautiful lights and some great music!
Highland Vista Cinco Via Neighborhood Porch Fest
Apr, 02 03:00 PM
If you haven't been to a Porch Fest yet, you're missing out! They are so much fun, I'm playing twice at this one: once doing my singer-songwriterly stuff, and then with my new retro soul band, Velvet Inferno, which I've joined as a backing vocalist because it's really hard to do mid-'70s soul and funk alone on an acoustic guitar! So whatever your pleasure, I'll probably play it at some point during the day. As always, this Porch Fest will have food trucks, too, so come on down! Admission to the event is free, but all musicians are volunteers and no one (myself included) will complain if you throw a couple bucks in ye olde tip jar. Hope to see you there!
Patio Sundays at The Mint
Apr, 09 03:00 PM
I'll be playing on the patio at the Mint (3540 E Grant Rd, Tucson) from 3-4 p.m. C'mon down for a cocktail and hang out with me on the patio!
Patio Sunday at The Mint--Redux
Jun, 04 04:15 PM
Let's try this again...on a non-major-family-holiday Sunday! Yes, perhaps Easter Sunday was not the best day for an afternoon bar gig (though I'm endlessly grateful to the friends who came out anyway! Thank you!) I'll be playing the second hour (4:15-5:15) of Patio Sunday in the comfy covered back patio of The Mint at 3540 E Grant Rd, Tucson, AZ 85716. Stop by for music and cocktails and witty banter from yours truly! Hope to see you there. Admission is free; drinks are up to you.
