Marcus McClinton was born December 6, 1985 and raised on the east-side of Chicago. He grew up on the 7700 block of Oglesby. His mother lives on the 7900 block of Crandon presently. "My purpose and dream is not over until I have the money to move my momma out the hood," says Marcus.
Most people take pride in being from the inner city. Marcus says he does not. He is not ashamed of where he is from and he loves all of his family and friends who live in the inner city. Marcus just can't handle the unpredictable fate of everyday east-side crazy Chicago Life. "You never know when it's your turn to be a victim in the city. So, I don't hang around to see if it's mine."
After so many years of losing close friends and relatives to gun violence, jail, crack cocaine, alcohol abuse, gambling, and greed, Marcus finds himself distorting his reality with ambitions of making it big in the music industry. "I don't want to save the world, I just want to save my family and friends," says Marcus.
Marcus started singing around the age 7. By age 10, Marcus was a member of a local, city of Milwaukee, WI, Gospel Choir known as "Mixed Generation." At age 12, Marcus was writing his own lyrics, recording his own vocals and producing his own beats. He sold his first cd as a 13 year old freshmen in high school. The summer of 2001 Marcus moved to Ft. Campbell, Kentucky, where he continued to produce, record and sell his music to friends, family and the community.
In 2004, Marcus was blessed with the opportunity to go to the University of Kentucky on a full grant in aide athletic scholarship in the sport of football. Even in college, Marcus continued to show his passion for music. He released a cd each of his 4 years in college and sold them to family, friends and the community of Lexington, Ky. Marcus graduated with a degree in communications in 2009. He also sign a free-agent contract to play for the New England Patriots. Furthermore, He got married to his college sweetheart in 2009.
Now that it is 2012, and Marcus is 26 years old, after a short career in the National Football League and other professional football leagues, after working minimum wage jobs, after being divorced, after living in Mansfield, MA., Casa Grande, AZ., Pikeville, KY., Atlanta, Ga., Pensacola, FL., Grand Isle, La., Marcus is back in Chicago, where it all started and this is what he has to say, "I'm Ready Now!'
As a kid, Marcus McClinton's goal was to become a professional football player. Years of being a dedicated athlete turned that dream into a reality when Marcus was drafted for the New England Patriots. Now as an adult, his sights are set on becoming the professional singer he was destined to be. These days, you can catch him writing and producing music daily in his state-of-the-art home studio. His life serves as his inspirational muse, making it easy for him to pen lyrics based on his personal experiences.
The music powerhouse started singing at the tender age of 7; a time when his hobbies included bike riding and even the dismantling of its parts with the accepted challenge of putting them back together. He wrestled and played sports like most young boys, yet music superceded it all, a hereditary talent in his family. As a child, paid by his Aunt to sing, Marcus also played sports and entered poetry contests.
As a major music enthusiast, Marcus is a fan of acts like Maroon 5, Buddy Guy, Miguel, BJ The Chicago Kid and even the poetry of Harold Green. His musical influences include a plethora of old school legends including James Brown, Al Green, David Ruffin, KC & JoJo and many more. However, when asked to name the top three artists (living or deceased) that he would like to collaborate with you, Marcus noted Bobby Womack, Otis Redding and Marvin Gaye. Just like those acts, Marcus has graced many stages as well, including The Onyx in Wilwaukee, WI. and this year's homecoming at his alma mater, the University of Kentucky in Lexington with his band Harmonious Dynasty.
Currently, Marcus is spreading the word about his single "Stay Right There"and preparing for the grand opening of his new fitness center in Lansing, IL on New Year's Day. See him perform live on Sunday, November 4th, as he opens up for Avant & Syleena Johnson at the Harold Washington Cultural Center located at 4701 S. King Dr. in Chicago's Bronzeville neighborhood at 7pm. The R&B Rocks The Vote event is presented by Loyalty Entertainment.
