I'm My-Ishia Cason-Brown. Yes, that is my real name, with the two dashes "They be silent." Please don't pronounce those and it's Cason without the "r".
So a little about me, I am from M to the W, Mid West, by way of Detroit, Michigan. My crib is in DTLA, Los Angeles, CA. Best decision ever!
I have a strong skill set in improv and sketch comedy writing, making funny videos and posting them on youtube for all the world to see. Currently, in level 5a at IO West. Plus, I had the amazing opportunity to worked on a new sketch with Issa Rae Productions, you may know her from the really funny web series "Misadventures of an Awkward Bllack Girl," I was cast in her spoof about twitter called " Black Twitter Party." I play #teamnatural, you know those chicks who are all about natural hair. Which is very funny, because I am a representative for the natural hair care product line, Miss Jessie's. Feel free to check out my hair tutorials on Youtube.
I am an actress! I love taking on fun, interesting as well as challenging roles. Performed in Avenue 18 at the Comedy Central Stage. I was cast as Ross in the Vagrancy Theater Company production of "Macbeth," at the Shakespeare Center of Los Angeles. With the Illyrian Players production of " Hot N Throbbing," I was the Voice Over. I got my street cred by performing on the stages of Detroit Repertory Theatre, Meadow Brook Theatre, Plowshares and Boarsehead Theatre. Some of my film credits are, "Gran Torino," with Clint Eastwood, as the Muslim Receptionist. I had to bust out my twerking skills for "Meet Monica Velour." Well, I did not actually twerk, my momma and her friends would not approve. Plus, I really don't think I can list that under special skills on my resume. Well, in the independent film starring Kim Cattrall and Tony Cox, "Meet Monica Velour," I was cast as Jazelle, playing a stripper. I fell off the pole during one of the takes, sound guy told me to stay in school.
Hosting and presenting crossovers, SUV's and trucks is how I thrive out here. By thrive, I mean keep a roof over my head, bills paid, gas in my car and not bugging my parents for money. I travel with the North American Auto Show with the car company GMC, Chevrolet, Toyota, and Scion, presenting the new concept and redesigned vehicles to the attendees at these shows. So basically, you know that saying "Don't talk to strangers?" Well, it can actually be a career talking to strangers. So, that is my gig, because lord knows I can not wait tables.
I have studied commercial technique and scene study with Marcus Folmar at the Booking Room. Scene study, audition technique with Billy O'Leary, soap opera workshop with Christy Dooley and casting director workshops at The Bridge and Act Now.
Oh, new special skill, Krav Maga, two more months I can test for a yellow belt, gold star for me!
