Growing up in a little town just outside the live music capital of the world, Nia always knew her voice would reach far beyond the limits of her humble upbringing.
A classically trained opera singer, the sweet and soulful Texas girl realized at an early age that she couldn’t just sing but she could “SANG!”
Winning numerous singing competitions throughout America, and performing at the world famous Apollo Theater in New York City, she became enthralled with the idea of being a star like her idols Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey. “I’ve never been one to emulate others, but both these women have set the blueprint for what an extraordinary artist is, what I want to be, and they will always be a huge inspiration for me”.
In order to set herself apart from her peers, Nia began the challenge of turning herself into multi-dimensional artist; dabbling with dancing and acting. However, it was song writing that really stuck: “I always heard melodies in my head, but I didn’t realize I could write songs until I was a teenager. I think it was god’s way of helping me to deal with painful experiences at that time. When I was inconsolable, it was writing that saved me.”
Fast forward 10 years and Nia is now living in Madrid, Spain and after a 4 year break, during which she completed her university education in engineering, she is once again pursuing her singing dreams. A truly international star in the making, Nia can be seen performing in venues all throughout Spain and the rest of Europe. “Living in Europe has really helped my music. I’ve been able to incorporate many different styles into my sound. My influences are now more diverse. Also, being able to sing and speak in different languages as allowed me to reach a whole new audience and to explore a whole new side of myself. “
Beautiful, charismatic and a self described “country girl at heart”, when asked what sets her apart from other artist of today, Nia replies with Texas politeness “I sing and write because it’s a part of me. It’s not something I chose, it’s something that I have been blessed with and it’s who I am.”
