Nycosia --Experimental Heaviness
Using many influences they are producing a sound that is uniquely, their own.
Avenoctum.com Tech Fest Review" A thin and pale-looking man in a green hooded wind cheater growled and screamed like a cat, as the instrumentalists around him pumped out irregular, djenty dirt. It stopped. “We are Nycosia”, he announced politely in a refined accent. Thanks. Now back to screams and dissonance of a highly disturbing and entertaining nature. Green Man’s face turned redder as he rapped venom into his mic for our benefit. Oodles and oodles of energy and aggression poured out of every crevice. Chunk – clunk – chunk, they’re angry. Everyone’s angry but happy. Sampled distorted crawliness led to a further mentally deranged breakneck fury fest, breaking down somewhere along the line into mind-altering doom. Oompah-oompah. The experimentation knew no bounds. It was brutal. It turned punishingly dark out there. Somehow we finished up in a cosmic void. This was fine fare for 2 o’clock on a Saturday afternoon. Immaculately presented, this was warped music for creative minds."

Debut EP has been recorded with Tom Manning of Keep Recording ar Raglan and is now being mixed and mastered.
There's always a concern when a band undergoes personnel changes, that there might be a loss of momentum - it took about two minutes of Nycosia's astonishing performance on the opening day of the Stroud Fringe Festival to dispel this.
The sound comes off stage like a nuclear powered steamroller and it's clear that this is a band playing with the brakes fully off.
Adam Barkley is the new addition to the band, replacing Lily Harper on vocals - his range is extraordinary - in this type of music, which is an unholy alliance of Progressive Metal, Djent and Mathcore, a certain amount of low register grunting is de rigeur and he duly delivers in a voice that makes bits of you vibrate, but there's also a 'conventional' voice, verging on a tenor that sets him apart.
The discipline of the music is tough on the rhythm section but the contrasting but complementary styles of Noah Plant on drums, arms and hair flailing, and Theo Beech, quiet, skilful and undemonstrative, drives the music on with precision and power, faultless through some very challenging time changes.
Which leaves Billy Kibble on guitars. At just 16, and already very highly qualified on his instrument, I've always thought that in the handful of times I've seen the band before, he's undersold himself and his talents. Not so tonight - he absolutely nails it.
Employing not only the Djent style but also a jaw-dropping bidextral technique on both seven and eight string guitars, he provides a dazzling demonstration of playing - coming most prominently to the fore on an astonishing cover of Animals As Leaders' instrumental "CAFO" - six truly astonishing minutes.
They're in the studio this week to record their debut EP, and it's the first track to be revealed from this, 'Mind Of A Hermit' that closes the set, with Barkley jumping off stage to form a mini-mosh with Halfway To Nowhere, who've stopped behind to support.
An absolute transformation and wonderfully, brutally, brilliant.
