Raja is a lyrical personification of the new hip-hop culture driven by multicultural and international artists. His name is an indicator of his culture and family ties, while his life is reminiscent of the influences growing up in Long Island, NY.
Raja is from a very traditional, strict and successful Indian family they were totally against his pursuit of music they looked at it as a hobby and urged him to follow the path of education.
Raja had a rocky life as a child from getting kicked out of school to being sent to military school and eventually dropping out of college. Raja’s realization of his need to take charge of his music career came after his father had a stroke and passed away not long after. It is then that Raja realized that he indeed needed to go hard. He speaks about breaking the stereotypes that society determines as it deals with race, ethnicity, skin color, religion, gender etc. this is a movement.
While his musical palette is as weird as many may consider him to be, ranging from Jay-Z &Tupac to Rage Against the Machine, Drake and Paul Van Dyke; his lyrical content and sound is heavily impacted by Kanye West – lyrical, fashionable and fun. His take on music is laid back, but feel good. Just have fun while you make music and make it good; if you cant have fun while your making music then your not doing it for the right reasons – says Raja.
He has never been the normal kid; very full of energy, he says “normal is boring to me.” His message is simply: no one should be afraid to be themselves and go after their dreams or what they believe in; this is evident in his newest track “Not Afraid” which is a more serious side of Raja and also his track “Mannaquin” which is the fashion killer, fun side of Raja.
Raja is currently independent but doing a joint venture with Grammy-Award Winning Big Tree Anderson. His EP is due this year as he is currently in the studio working with a few industry heavy-hitters, such as producer's Dun Deal, Sonny Digital, Bassivity and James Fauntelroy.
He currently has 2 singles in rotation; “Make that Ass Bounce” and Mannaquin both produced by Dun Deal. The latter has garnered attention from social media superstar Lil Terrio who danced to the song and posted the video to Instagram and Vine.
Raj will appear in issue 7 of Inkjunkeyz Magazine which features comedian DC Young Fly on the cover. Raj will also appear in Hip Hop Weekyl and the upcoming XXL freshmen magazine issue as an emerging artist.
