The band began in 2010 when long-time friends Andrew Mithun, Ryan Knaub, and Shaughnessy McDaniel decided to start "The Stubby Shillelaghs" as a small side project. In October of 2010 "Patrick's Pub" owner Greg Farnsworth, looking for an act to play his Halloween show, took a chance on the as-yet unproven Stubbies. The result was a resounding success which led to the band's weekly show, "Stubby Tuesdays". They recorded and released their first self-produced album "Stubbies Assemble!" on St. Patrick's Day of 2011. Following this there was an expansion into Denver and other parts of Colorado.
Their high energy folk style quickly became a sensation in the state, leading to festival appearances, glowing reviews, and even several homages from fellow musicians and web artists.
Here's what fans and critics alike are saying about the Stubbies:
"They have taken the spirit of the likes of The Dubliners, The Wolfe Tones and The Clancy Brothers and have added a great deal of their own ingredients to the mix... Well done, Stubbies!" - Kinksmarkham, Celtic Folk and Punk Blog
"Bawdy and Beautiful... a comedy/epic comic book that flowers with abundance of talent at every turn of the page."- Baxter Labatos, CelticMusicFan.com
"The enthusiasm of everyone else grew with each classic Irish pub song." - Michael Thompson, Denver Examiner
"Articulate Attitude"-Patrick Lasswell, Amazon.com
The band has released their 2nd studio album "Whiskey Business" and their first live album "Parental Advisory Live!" in 2012. With the addition of Eric Fischer, The Stubbies have just released their 3rd Studio Album, "Celtic-American".
Just wanted to remind everyone we hit the studio August 14-16 to wrap up work on "Celtic-American" and we can't wait to share it with you. We are also finishing up plans for a CD Release party, full details once they're finalized!
