Hailing from Saint Paul, Minnesota, recording artist, songwriter and entrepreneur, YaLonda Lolar-Johnson has a voice to be reckoned with. From a young age, this Twin Cities native has been using her anointed voice to inspire and encourage the world.
YaLonda was born and reared in Saint Paul, Minnesota. Her love for music and her musical gift emerged from a long lineage of musical giftedness. YaLonda’s maternal great grandmother and great aunts along with her paternal grandmother sang in musical groups throughout her childhood. YaLonda sang her first solo in church at the age of eight and knew by the ago of 12 she wanted a career in the music industry.She attributes some of her inspiration to her home church, Glendale SDA Church, where she had the privilege of hearing powerful singing groups like The Remnants, The Demps & Taylor Families, Ngozi, songwriter and composer, Louis Boney and the Glendale Church Choir which was under the direction of YaLonda’s earliest voice teacher, Cloie Logan. YaLonda’s childhood dream was to sing like the late Whitney Houston at Carnegie Hall. Her favorite musical genre is gospel. A few of her favorite songs are “Pray” by Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir, “Destiny is Waiting” by Deon Kipping and “New Life” by John P. Kee.
In addition to singing, songwriting and engaging with her fans on social media, YaLonda loves to cook, study genealogy and spend time with family and friends. She is passionate about natural hair for black women and regularly posts her own natural hair adventures on YouTube as well as on other social media outlets. YaLonda is a member of the Alliance of Black Telecommunications Professionals (ABTP) and gives back to her community by providing food and other items of necessity to the disadvantaged. YaLonda’s favorite quote is “Let your faith be bigger than your fear.” Above all, YaLonda wants to be known as God’s songbird.
