Trocaria is a one-piece female-fronted dark metal/dark gothic metal band based out of Charlotte NC (USA).
The project originally formed in September, 2007, under the name Trocarian Fate by Joan Palmer.
The original concept of the project was to collaborate with and promote the talents of up-and-coming underground musicians in the Charlotte NC area. However, the original idea was scrapped.
Joan continued to write and compose more keyboard arrangements. Meanwhile, her friend, Jon, was writing lyrics and juggling around lyrical ideas. The blend of Joan's darker-sounding symphonic metal was going to blend with Jon's blackened death metal vocals--and no one would know what the outcome would be.
The result was The Dark Nears-- an original-sounding and against-the grain approach to dark gothic/dark symphonic metal. Instead of the band being female-fronted, it was female-BACKED. The guitars and bass were gritty but solid, the keyboards were delicate but dark, and the vocals set the overall menacing tone.
As of September, 2012, Trocaria became a solo project, with Joan taking over vocal duties. She released an EP titled Broken on July 17, 2013. Her lyrical content was very personal in meaning and focused on the darker aspects of life.
Her third release, Mors Ab Alto, has been out since December 31, 2016. It featured a reworked and revamped version of Suicide, a song previously recorded from The Dark Nears sessions. However, to prevent getting the two songs confused, the new version was entitled "Suicide 2016". Joan is currently working on her fourth release, tentatively named "Scarred", which features re-worked songs from The Dark Nears sessions with new lyrics and two new songs. Completion date TBA at a later date.
