African Rhythm is an 11-piece alternative band from Krugersdorp, South Africa whose sound is a fusion of soul, African, tribal, house and jazz music. Besides talented music performers, the group includes dancers, choreographers and fashion designers, who have the most amazing attitude to life which radiates in their music and fashion sense. It all started with a heartbeat. 6 years ago 11 of us came together, without any music training or experience, each one struck a chord and African Rhythm was born. What began as jam sessions, busking in the streets of Johannesburg and a YouTube video that went viral on social media networks turned into a youth band that toured every corner of South Africa. Defined as “Township’s soul”, the group’s music features (in township style) a mix of genres such as Afro beat, Afro-Pop, and tribal-house. African Rhythm has been scare-crowing across South Africa’s stages with their unique sound, some might call it a niche , but to call it a niche would be entirely missing the point, African Rhythm are some of shape –shifters than a niche. African Rhythm Since their videos went viral, the youth band is rapidly growing and receiving recognition from various media platforms, snowballing into new opportunities. They have been featured recently on SABC, CNN: AFRICAN VOICES and Elle Decoration Magazine. Hailing from Krugersdorp, South Africa. The band moved to Pretoria in early 2016 in defiance of their parents to pursue their dream and have been giving Pretoria dwellers street performances ever since. Their instrumental array includes voice, flute, trumpet, and a rich variety of percussion instruments: various kinds of shakers, bells, marimba, djembe, clapping, foot tapping and whistling. They don’t just make music, but look stylish as well.
