Ain't Saint John is Wexford songwriter and piano-player John Mac Naeidhe. Having spent most of 2013 playing solo gigs and writing songs, by November, it was time to form a band. He began working with Guitarist and Recording Engineer Chris Barry, Bassist Tom Mulrooney, Drummer David Blaney and singers Alison Byrne and Holly Pereira. Guest musicians include Violinist Christophe Capewell, Trombonist Derenik Kolaiain and Sharon Murphy on Harmonium . One month later, they had finished tracking their first EP.
Since then, they have been gigging in venues around Dublin, including The Grand Social, Whelan's and The Joinery and preparing for their debut release,
The Grow Yourself EP, which is out on the 15th May.
Ain't Saint John will launch his debut release "The Grow Yourself EP" on Thursday 15th May 2014 at The Grand Social, Liffey St. Dublin 1. Tickets are 8 Euros
The Grow Yourself EP has a fresh, folky, americana sound, drawing some influence from the styles of Bill Callahan and Nick Cave. The opening track Snapdragon, has been descibed as "glorious" (RTE 2XM's Needle Hits the Groove) It is warm, dynamic and felt.
The EP features 6 songs recorded in December of last year at Punkahontas Studios, Dublin. It was engineered and mixed by Chris Barry (Myles Manley, Floor Staff) and mastered at Wav Mastering, Limerick by Richard Dowling.
The Grow Yourself EP will be available on Vinyl, CD and Digital formats from May 15th 2014.
