Alexis Assata Jones or Assata, as she is affectionately known has been musically inclined since she was old enough to walk. Assata was born November 12, 1992. Assata was born and raised on the South Side of Chicago, IL. She began her love for music from infancy in the home listening to R & B, Dusties, Salsa and Reggae. Assata began her music career singing at the tender age of six while a member of Hyde Park Chicago Children’s Choir.
Shortly after her talent was discovered, Assata was enrolled into musical theater at age 9 and scored her debut leading role as “Oliver” at the renowned Beverly Arts Center in Chicago’s Morgan Park community. No surprise to most, she continued excelling in the craft of musical theater. Assata moved to Toronto, Ontario with her family in her Sophmore year. She attended Rosedale Performing Arts High School, The Fame of Toronto. In Toronto, Assata inspired by Toronto’s unique fashion sense, discovered her own style and added other diverse genres of music to her repertoire.
Upon leaving Toronto, Assata moved to New Orleans at age 17, where she learned a new genre; the Bounce and Brass Band culture. Prior to Assata's solo career she returned to Chicago where she was discovered by Tiny and TI and indulged in their girl group, French Kiss in Atlanta, GA. Assata sought out to fulfill her solo career thereafter. Since then Assata has performed live with Brandy, Jeremih and has come full circle to her main heart’s desire; singing. The world has only seen the beginning of what Assata will produce as the coming years welcomes her talents.
