Centered around leader Steve Washington and singers Curtis Jones and Starleana Young, Aurra was an outgrowth of the Ohio-based funk band Slave. They recorded albums during their late-'70s and early-'80s existence, with most of that output released on Salsoul. Washington instigated Aurra as a family affair of sorts, using various friends and members of the Slave Touring crew to fill out the group's lineup; at various points, Aurra's personnel swelled to a dozen. In addition to the core of Washington,, Aurra's line-up included Curt Jones, Starleana Young, Mark Adams, Steve Arrington, Charles "Cedell" Carter, Philip Field, Buddy "Hanks" Henderson who became Bassit for Young and company and Steve Arrington's Hall of Fame, Jennifer Ivory, Tom Lockett,David "Pic" Conley who later formed The group Surface,Drew Saddler, Kenny Johnston ,Kevin Grady, Gail Freeman, William" Billy" Young, and Mike Young, Starleana' Young's brothers who Later became Young and company. Washington Landed Aurra a contract with Salsoul, one of the premier disco labels.

AURRA NOW

Together again as co-producers Steve Washington and lead vocalist Curt Jones team up for the new release "Back 2 U". As the title track and album name implies, AURRA has come "back to you" featuring the vocal talent of Curt Jones along with a majority of its original members as listed below (See photographs) and an additional three person background vocals giving AURRA the sound and flavor fans are accustomed. The "Back 2 U" single release is scheduled for purchase October 2013 as debut to the upcoming EP and Album productions set for early 2014.
