From fashionable rags to rich cool beats, DJ Shawn Carter has spun onto the party scene with fierce style, heating up turntables that bring us back to the heart and soul of music. Born in Berkeley as Shawneene Carter, raised in Oakland CA, her sophisticated swag and musical taste developed at the early age of 8. Funk & Soul music was an integral part of the household where she grew to love the Artist’s vinyl just as family.
Rare grooves & the "B" sides, such as, Alicia Myers, “I Want To Thank You” and Isley Brothers “Here We Go Again” was her sounding alarm early mornings to start the day. As if, R&B were her siblings, she embraced the music and played with it constantly.
“As far back as I can remember, I’ve loved creating, mixing and putting things together....” Which eventually lead Mizz Carter to Southern Cal, to the heart of Hollywood, where she initially ventured to pursue her other talents in fashion and received her BFA degree in Fashion Marketing and Design. As she established her own roots in the city, paving her career as an event coordinator and working various production roles in wardrobe for television and ticket coordinator for prominent award shows, she became more determined to accomplish her dream as a deejay.
With much development and hustle, DJ Shawn Carter found herself in the midst of the music culture. Shawn’s style and versatility has made her a favorite among leading brands & celebrities. Her broad scope of music appreciation and diverse background provide the foundation for her ability to blend new and classic elements of R&B, old school hip-hop, island rhythms, house and indie gems into her unique sets. Shawn Carter provides her signature sound for an array of clients including: Zendaya, John R. Wooden Awards, Jimmy Choo, DC Shoes, X Games, Wolf Gang Puck, BET Experience, Fresh Cosmetics, NAACP Image Award Show, and locking in former LA club residencies as, Nirvana, Barcopa, JW Marriott LA Live, Room 86, Luxe Hotel Beverly Hills, and Privacy Lounge.
