Brigit Jackson's explosive vocals will keep you rocking til the last note! BRIGIT is a PROLIFIC writer injecting emotion and soulful style into all of her songs. She had the privilege of performing at venues from Madison Square Garden to private release parties in Baltimore and Atlanta. She is a breath of fresh air! Her vocal style is reminiscent of Alicia Keys, Beyonce, and Mary J. Blige. Her cover of the late Teena Marie's most popular song "Lovergirl" is just a sampling of the powerhouse vocals this artist harbors. In addition, her cover of Adele's "Hometown Glory" is amazing!
BRIGIT released her new song, "Fighter" on her own label, All Cards Up. She co-owns the label with talented writer, G. Lucciano, along with I.C.E. on the instrumentals. Working with a great team on their label and a veteran #1 songwriter in the business, Brigit is ready to take it up a notch! Visit BRIGIT at www.brigitjackson.com.

I am a singer/songwriter. My music crosses into different genres including R&B, Pop, and Pop/Country. I’ve always loved all kinds of music. My father sang and my mother writes poetry and sings. My grandmother also sang. I grew up around music including singing in the church choir.
What image do you see your music conveying?
My music conveys freedom and individuality. Some of my music conveys struggle and pain. Music can give a new perspective to someone going through something. I hope to bring that to people who listen to my music–-a fresh perspective. I am here to help others in the way that I was built to do. One way is through music. If just one lyric I’ve written helps someone then that is a blessing to me.
Some songs are solely meant for dancing (true indeed!). I love to dance! A few songs I have written had that one purpose in mind. Just get on the floor and move something!
What’s something exciting that has happened to you in 2010 or your life?
I traveled back to Baltimore last summer and a friend surprised me by giving one of my songs to a DJ who played it in the club. We were sitting at the table and I was like “Hey is that…that’s my song!” Watching people get on the dance floor to my song was WAY cool. I have some great friends, yes? I was so excited, I’m pretty sure I tweeted about it that night! J
I wrote a song to be used as a track for an arcade game that was in development. The company took the song and made it the theme song for the game and created a Brigit cartoon that is also featured on the game. I didn’t know about the cartoon until the unveiling of the game in Baltimore. They presented the caricature to me as a gift. It was very cool to see the cartoon glide across the screen as you play. That was a lot of fun!
I have also been blessed to be able to network with a few people and work as an extra in the Atlanta area. I have been bitten by the acting bug.
I was recently listening to your song “Groove with Me” an upbeat track with soulful lyrics. Do you write your own music?
Thank you. I write my own lyrics, yes. I listen to a track and if I like it, the lyrics come. Sometimes the lyrics come from my own experiences and other times it is pure fiction, but hopefully still relevant. I enjoy collaborating with other artists and songwriters as well.
Who are the musicians that you admire and draw influence from?
There are so many I admire, I don’t know where to begin. I love the musicians who do it for the love of it. I admire those musicians from all walks of life who give back to their communities and charities and who fight to keep music in schools.
You are not only a singer; you are also into acting and also majoring in IT! What do you see taking most of your devotion?
In 2010, I was focused on completing my Bachelor’s degree. I plan to get my Masters as well! I did find a little bit of studio time to sing “Lovergirl’ cover song. I am very excited to get back in the studio as soon as possible in the next few weeks. Music is definitely my passion. I would love to do more with acting as well!
What are the most challenging projects you’ve had to partake in (whether in school or in the music world)?
I worked with a great songwriter for a couple years who would contact me sometimes at 11:30pm with an instrumental and say, “Hey, think you can get something to me by tomorrow?” I would laugh but he was oh so serious. That kind of scenario happened a few times and I wrote several songs in that manner. It was challenging and fun at the same time. Having a great producer helped me to make those deadlines too. That kind of stuff gets me on a natural high. I love it!
How do you balance your schedules while playing different roles?
In 2010, I decided to concentrate on finishing my degree. As much as I want to be in the studio working, I thought it was more important for me to stay on target for a spring 2011 graduation!
What is your best attribute?
I think my loving heart is my best attribute.
What is the most memorable piece of advice someone has given you?
Live my life on purpose, understand that purpose, and know that it is greater than my own needs, desires, and wants. And most definitely give back with a willing heart.
Favorite lyrics from a song?
MJs Man in the Mirror (the whole song)… but specifically
I’m starting with the man in the mirror
I’m asking him to change his ways
And no message could have been any clearer
If you wanna make the world a better place
Take a look at yourself, and then make a change
Something that people don’t know about you…..
I sing country and I love Rock music! Before moving to Atlanta, you could catch me somewhere in the DMV ice fishing, bass fishing, or deep sea fishing. I also lived on a farm alongside my Amish neighbors! True story.
Where can people listen to (or buy) your music?
You can listen to my music at http://brigitjackson.com and purchase it on iTunes.
What are your future goals?
I am currently working on the next CD. I plan on releasing a single for the summer and working on some music videos. I would love to travel and sing! I plan to begin working on that Masters this year too!
What are the most challenging things you have had to face so far with your music, with the industry?
Working the right angle to get my music heard has been the biggest challenge so far. There is no cookie-cutter solution. Not every avenue to get heard works for every artist.
Do you have some words of wisdom, or advice, for anyone trying to get into the music industry?
The industry is a maze of many things! Blessed are those who have a guide or someone willing to get you that introduction or that ultimate audition. I think it is important to keep networking and stay grounded. My advice is to stay true to oneself, keep striving. It is also wise to have patience, consistently work at perfecting your craft, keep a positive attitude and be able to take constructive criticism. Surround yourself with people who truly have your best interest at heart and get out there and make some great music! It doesn’t hurt to have a Plan B either.
Words you live by….
God’s got my back, I’m good.
No stress
It’s all about timing
Love, Joy, and Peace
It’s a heart thing
Don’t Stop The Music
Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.
