Thought provoking and empowering hip hop music aimed at capturing minds in order to expand awareness of self and the world.
Since I was younger I’ve always had a deep love and crazy passion for music. It’s my life blood! I can appreciate all types of music, but the most expressive form to me is hip-hop/rap. It only made sense to express both my poetry and my love for music in one artistic form.
So I give to you my Collective Thoughts
"Am I born who I am or made into who I am? Am I more than I know or am I only a man"
"I've been under-looking up at thunder as the sky cries, can only wonder why? but its in the worst that I rise"
"but through my music I'm alive cause through my music I cant die"
"the strong survive, the stronger will rise "
" A closed mind is a strong man's cancer"
"part of the movement that actually moving and it will be proven your're just here to feed me"
"do you get the message? my essence is endless"

Collective Thought aka John Morgan is Spiritual Hip-Hop lyricist from Erie, Pennsylvania. On his collection of songs, the first thing that demands the listener’s focus has to be Morgan’’s openness; the transparency of his words, the power of his rhetoric, and the totally unburdened, carefree pursuit of his faith.
That’s something you don’t see a lot. On the one hand, the lyrics are Spiritual-centered on some songs, while on the other, it’s about the farthest thing from praise music as you can get, like “My Room” which has an explicitly sexual theme. Morgan’s personal honesty and fallibility however, allows just about any listener to identify with him, while his resistance to gloss and gloat over the gospel demonstrates his commitment to real-life truth above everything else, and this can be best witnessed on “Striving for Fame”.
Morgan’s words on his single “Dear Lord” evinces an intimacy, while the music encourages and edifies in a way that most recent hip-hop music can only hope for, with its pathetically rehashed forms; lack of innovation; and bland, cheesy lyrics.

From the opening track on the Collective Thought website, “Twisted turnt up”, Morgan has tailored the sickest beats you’ve ever heard to magnify the truth of his words, to expose the emptiness of modern values, to show the weakness of humanity and to delineate the love and dedication he is putting into his craft to achieve his predetermined goals.
Some of Collective Thought’s tracks will knock you flat on so many levels: the lyrical depth and intricacy, the beats and melodies to match the lyrics, and the concepts on which he rapped. John Morgan, without a doubt, makes music that goes so deep in such a good way, that after listening you’ll always feel uplifted and refreshed. He has a beautiful gift and he knows exactly how to use it.
In general Rap moves along the same patterns of any other artistic movement. It can be taken and rubbed into the mud and brought down to the lowest common denominator, or it can be raised to the highest level of sublimity. In each instance, the interpreter holds the key.
So often you may hear mainstream rap, with decent tunes but horrible lyrics. Collective Thought has them both, awesome beats and deep lyrics. You’ll be rocking to the beat, and when Morgan starts rhyming, you’re like, wow, there’s so much here, and it’s so encouraging!
The Collective Thought project by John Morgan is definitely something worth putting in your mind into.
Highly anticipated album "limitless" is being released at the end of June 2013 from Collective Thought to you..
