DARRYL D’BONNEAU
Touching upon the true spirit of Gospel House and R&B, acclaimed Southern vocalist Darryl D’Bonneau takes the genre back to its roots, infusing his music with powerful elements of love and soul that only he can achieve. With his smooth vocals and his emotionally - charged lyrics, Darryl D’Bonneau possesses all he needs to show his “Strong Love” for music.
Darryl’s talent began budding at the early age of four. Raised in Charleston, South Carolina, traditional Southern gospel music played an instrumental role in his growth musically and provided an avenue for him to develop his singing talent. Moving from performances with church choirs to pursuance of a solo singing career, Darryl eventually earned the opportunity to sing background for one of his earlier influences, Martha Wash, (The voice of the Weather Girls) for over 16 years.
Darryl began fusing soulful R&B vocals with a contemporary club/house style, recording hit songs such as “A Better Way”, “It’s The Spirit” and “Sent From Above”. His rise to the top in the club scene led to his landmark achievement, having reached the #1 position on the Billboard Club play charts with “Stop Playing With My Mind” (a duet with Barbara Tucker). As an international success, he has appeared on the Top of the Pops program and continues to stay on every DJ’s dance chart with his release “It’s the Spirit” from his 2005 album, On My Way.
With his gospel House cut “Peace,” produced by DeepCitySoul D’Bonneau professes his love for the music and solidifies his status as a multi-faceted vocalist. Darryl’s current project “Why Me” is rocking the dance floor, produce by Kenny Summit and Re-mix by The Godfather of House Director’s Cut Frankie Knuckles and Eric Kupper, using his passionate soprano voice and commanding stage presence in his journey to revive the original soul of R&B and House.
Darryl is presently in the studio working with Powerhouse Diva Inaya Day, Mr.Darryl James New Yorks own (Dj from 98.7 Kiss FM), Mario Ferrini M (Basil Switzaerland),
Dino Michael, Dj/Producer (Capetown, South Africa), Itchy Lemon Dj/Producer (Portugal), Alex Dimitri Dj/Producer (Italy) to name a few.. The album will also include a duet with House Diva Cinammon Brown & Gospel Great Mervin Fleming written by one of Gospels great writers Cleve Dion Fleming. He is also mentoring and collaborating with up and coming R&B Artist Rellim.
He also has new management with Atwork Entertainment (James Germany) and is very happy with his newfound family.
Look out for his upcoming projects.
“I don’t want to be labeled as just a house, gospel or pop artist; I’m a singer, I like singing everything because I love music. You might hear a bit pop or house in my music because that is how I sing. I see that I make others happy when they listen to my music and there is something in my music for everybody.”

LET’S DANCE with Darryl D’Bonneau
The Minister is proud to have the chance to interview Darryl D’Bonneau a singer that I’ve been listening to and dancing to for more years then I can remember with songs that have touched my soul with STOP PLAYING WITH MY MIND and STONG LOVE just to name a few.
So Lets Dance!!!!!!
Tell the people of Australia / TMP family a bite about yourself?
Well my name is Darryl D’Bonneau I was raised in Charleston, SC music has always been a part of my life growing up. I listened to my grandmother sing and humming around the house all the time and it sound so beautiful so I guess she made me the singer I am. She use to make me sing in church on Sundays and to see how the people loved my voice as a child I know I had a gift that was sent from above.
When did you start to get into house music?
I was about 15 or 16 years old when I started to listen to house music back then it was called Disco it was a music that moved me I felt like I was in church and the spirit had taken control of me it made me very happy. Hearing what the artist was singing about felt like they were writing songs about me.
What musical influence made you the artist you are today?
The Tramps, The Weather Girls, Sylvester, Mighty Clouds Of Joy, Ronnie Dyson, Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes. and people that I went to church with like Jocelyn Brown and my pastor the late Jerry Burns just to name a few.
What would u say to people that say that soulful house music is not important in today’s dance seen?
Soulful House Music is very important it comes from the soul without that music is just nothing but noise. It gives us something to hold on to to look forward to knowing that life will get better. We sing and dance about what is going on in life we don’t have to sugar coat it we tell it like it is in song.
Would u say it harder being a male singer in HOUSE music then a female artist?
Yes it is harder but I have never let that stop me. Being a male singer you have to always look the part or sing high but I sing from my soul that’s what keep me in the game.
What would you say is the hardest thing about being a singer this days in house music?
I would say being a singer in house music is hard because we don’t get the respect that we deserve, People use / sample our voices don’t give us credit. We are the voices behind the music they remix pop artist songs that will never sing in a house club. The DJ’s get more respect they make them God’s without vocals there are no DJ’s.
What do you have coming and what can we expect from you in the future?
My managers James Germany (Atwork Entertainment), Ashley Saunders (Ashbon) and myself are working on my new double CD called “House Of Love” & “House Of Love Duets” do to be released in Spring 2014 that I am very proud to have my name on. We brought in some of the best and greatest house singers to do some duets with me that I can call friends that I love to listen to. Along with some phenomenal producers from all over the world. These Songs will have you listening again to great soulful house music and wanting to see us live on stage again.
I’d like to James Germany for making the interview possible and Darryl for being so open and honest with me for the interview and hope to see him in person on my adventures into sound.

ALL IN ONE
Auftritt: 16. und 17.8., «SPRISSE Openair», Pratteln;
31.8., «Jugendkulturfestival» Basel

Darryl D’Bonneau
D'Bonneau easily accomplishes what few of his contemporaries can. This Artist blends the soulful reserve of a traditional R&B crooner with the primal fervor of an underground belter. Such skill has served him well during his time with Jellybean Recordings. He has already scored a Billboard dance chart hit with "Don't Turn Your Back On Me," which also displays Darryl's knack for pulpit-pounding gospel. A boyhood of singing in church allows him to naturally infuse his music with a warm spirituality that enhances the force of a house beat incredibly well. "I learned at a young age that a record isn't any good unless give it every ounce of your passion," he says with pride. "When I sing, it's like something enters my body and takes over. It's a transforming experience."

Darryl D'Bonneau - Say You're Gonna Stay (ft DJ Meme & Jovonn remixes) is released August 4th on Jellybean Soul
The Past... How many success stories have you heard that began in Charleston, South Carolina? When you think of Charleston, you think of the Deep South - A port city drenched in Southern tradition and charm. Out of one of those Southern traditions, Darryl D'Bonneau's star was born. Some of the greatest singers of our day got their start singing in the Southern tradition of the Gospel choir. Divas such as Aretha Franklin, Candi Staton & Whitney Houston started in church and brought that spirit to the Pop charts and Dance floors of the World over. So much has been made of the divas, but what about the men? Darryl D'Bonneau is the latest name to be added to that prestigious list that includes Sam Cooke, Isaac Hayes & Sylvester. He started singing at the age of four, but it wasn't until he was ten years old that his career took off in earnest. His family moved to New York and his natural singing ability got the attention of Rev. Jerry Burns. Under his supervision, Darryl recorded his first Gospel record called, Love at Open Door. Darryl soon brought that spirit to the clubs, where he quickly developed a following. One day while laying down tracks in the studio, Choreographer Jamale Graves heard him singing and contacted his friend Martha Wash. It was one of those moments when your life comes full circle, his early musical influences were in fact Sylvester & Martha Wash on the Dance tip and James Cleveland, Shirley Ceasar & Clara Ward from the Gospel world. The Present... Presently, Darryl is helping to create a new fusion by mixing old, soulful R&B vocalizations over a contemporary club sound. This multi-talented singer has impressed many an audience with his unique voice and commanding stage presence. Over the years, D'Bonneau has released recordings with record labels such as New Generation, Jellybean, Kult, Nervous & Easy Street. He has collaborated with producers like Hex Hector, (Deborah Cox, Shannon) & David Sussman. D'Bonneau's career has been blessed with having worked with legends such as Martha Wash, Sylvester, Taylor Dayne & Diana Ross. Looking toward the future, It's The Spirit From Mr. D'Bonneau New CD! ON MY WAY has made number one on every DJs dance chart in 2005. Stop Playing With My Mind, (a duet with Barbara Tucker), scored the number one position on the Billboard Club Play chart for Strictly Rhythm Records in February 2000. He is ready to use his experience on TV, (Tops of the Pops & the Arsenio Hall Show), and in the clubs (12 West, Cheetah Bar, Body & Soul, Limelight & the Shelter, Love Paride in Germany), to take his career to the next level on Strictly Rhythm Records. Look for the Lenny Fontana produced singles titled Pow Pow Pow, and Can We Do It Again as Powerhouse feat. Darryl D'Bonneau. You may remember the last Powerhouse release. It looks like another ..1 may be in Darryl's future. A Better Way - JellyBean and Darryl back together again.
