Created in Chile in 2012 by Ernesto Calderón and Gianela Machuca, The Transatlantic Chilean Folk Ensemble plays a range of innovative original compositions based on traditional Chilean Folk music. Described by Rob Adams of Herald Scotland as 'keeping traditional rhythms and instrumentation sounding fresh,' the Ensemble has played across Europe and Chile, proving that modern Chilean folk music deserves a place no less recognised than other better known South American music styles.
Dynamic and full of life, the Ensemble takes you on a tour of the different Chilean styles, ranging from the Cueca dance form to the largely unrecognised music of Chile's Afro descendants, all the while mixing traditional with modern.
Well we won the Arts Council funding YAY! and since May we are recording our first studio album!!!
We just sent our application for the "Fondo de la Música" of the chilean Arts Council, a grant that would allow us -in case we get it- to record, mix and master our next CD. Fingers crossed!
(... and if we don't get it, we'll record it anyways ;) )
We are now preparing our 2nd European Meeting, to be held in October 17th-26th, in the beautiful town of Santiago de Compostela, Galicia, Spain. This year we have more than 20 participants from 11 different countries... can't wait! :)
After 2 amazing gigs with the Journey of a Thousand Wings Orchestra (part of the Tinderbox Project), we are now about to leave Edinburgh. Thanks everyone for their support and hope to see you soon again!
