Ian Frees is a twenty one year old Singer-songwriter from Chicago IL. After having played guitar in bands all of his life, he decided in 2008 to become a songwriter like his influences Ben Howard, CSN and Bob Dylan. Thanks to his talent for writing radio-friendly folk songs that connect with audiences with the very first listen, his songs have been recieving a lot of accolades with the public.
A songwriter of instinct, Ian has a flair for writing catchy songs that leave the listener moved by the raw emotion in them. Although his roots are firmly placed in Indie Folk, he draws inspiration from many different lyrical and musical influences. “My style is Acoustic..I can write a folk song today, and the next a classic rock song, and I’ll be wondering..where did that come from?”. Ian Was Recognized in the TMC indie folk Competition in 2012 and had made publishers interested in him.
Ian started writing songs at the age of 12: “I used keyboards and everything that made a sound around the house to write on before I even picked up the guitar!”, he says jokingly. But it wasn’t until joining local bands at 16 as front singer, that he decided to make music his life dream. For the next several years however, life took him through many travels around the Country, from Austin Texas, to California and Wisconsin, places where he studied and held different jobs. Music, truth be told, was never far from his mind. “I always knew it was a matter of time until I started to write songs again, cause in every State I went, my first stop was always the music store, where I discovered new types of music. All those different genres have influenced the songwriter I am today.
Ian is sharing his time between enjoying City life and spending plenty of time in the studio where he writes material he hopes to pitch to publishing companies in the near future. Based on the reception of his lattest compositions, the future looks promising!
