Born in Syracuse, N.Y. to a musically inclined family, Jessy Chick began playing the piano and singing at age four and was writing her own songs by the age of nine. As a teenager, she was influenced by great voices including Aretha Franklin, Nina Simone, Tori Amos and Gillian Welch. Striving to be like her musical icons, Jessy would always find a way to learn and create music. Whether that meant staying long hours in the music room after school or cutting class completely hiding out in an old church to practice the piano, she followed her love of music to where she was free to play to her heart’s content. As a young adult, her free spirit and interest to travel brought her to Puerto Viejo, Costa Rica (a stop on the traveller and backpacker trail for people from all over the world making their way through the Americas). This high-energy filled town exposed Jessy to amazingly talented musicians daily giving her the boost she needed to open up and bare her soul to the world. Making a name for herself in Puerto Viejo, the community welcomed her as she brought more life to the live music scene. While singing through Northern and Central America and creating a massive network of travellers, fans and musicians across the globe, Jessy planned and executed a successful grassroots tour in 2012 across Europe. In 2015 she completed a successful US East Coast tour performing in venues including the Wilma Theater (Philadelphia), Hard Rock Café (Myrtle Beach), Uncle Ernies (Panama City Beach, Fla.), Jimmy Buffett’s Margaritaville (Panama City Beach, Fla.) as well as the famous Skippers Club in Tampa Bay. Falling in love with the Sunshine state, she was able to build a home away from home on the Florida Panhandle and returned in the summer of 2016 to play more than 40 shows. Recently collaborating with producers Eric Bukowski (Full Volume Recordings) and Jahsiah (Oakland, Calif.), Jessy began experimenting and merging her naturally soulful piano stylings with classic Reggae and Electro Soul.
