RISK - Jazz Allnighter
Should we revive the music traditions of Town Hall? Who out there can handle nearly 10 hours of jazz? We plan to find out by revisiting the Town Hall all-night jazz sessions.
Kicking off with two sets, one by the Mike Fletcher Jazz Orchestra and the second by the Blam Composers Orchestra led by Jazzlines Fellow Lluis Mather, the night then expands into the unknown with a plethora of Birmingham’s jazz talent taking to the stage.
Jazzlines: Toby Boalch Sextet
Birmingham based young pianist and composer Toby Boalch performs a selection of his own compositions and pieces commissioned by Jazzlines, alongside emerging Birmingham musicians Chris Maddock and John Fleming on saxophones, Richard Foote on trombone, Jonathan Silk on drums, and Nick Jurd on bass.

Trumpeter Matt Gough returns with a little big band playing mostly original material. There is something very special about a group of this size; it has the richer textures that a smaller group cannot produce without the overwhelming power of a big band.
Nick Jurd Quartet:
You will definitely know this amazing musician as a sideman in many of Birmingham's local bands, and further afield.. He has played countless times at the Spotted Dog and is now bringing his newly re-formed quartet to debut at the dog, this time with him as a leader! Certainly not to be missed, this will be a great evening of music.
Featuring:
Chris Young - Alto sax
John Fleming - Tenor sax
Nick Jurd - Bass
Jim Bashford - Drums
Music starts at 9pm. Usual cheap drinks, good times and a jam session afterwards so bring your horns. Suggested £5 donation to the glass for the band. See you there!
