KGenius is a reggae vocalist and guitarist originally hailing from St. Catherine, Jamaica. With over 10 years of industry experience playing across the country and abroad, KGenius is fast becoming a highly sought after artist in the reggae circuit. Through his music, he looks to uplift spirits, hearts and minds.
KGenius is no stranger to music, and has been involved in Jamaica’s sound system culture from as early as the 80s. It was here where he would develop his love for DJ’ing, dancing, and the freedom of expression that came with it. He also cites his siblings as pivotal figures who shaped his music taste into what it is today. They introduced him to the likes of Bob Marley, Kenny Rogers, Third World, Maxi Priest, and The Jackson 5 to name just a few, all of which helped cultivate his desire to write and perform songs of his own.
His formative years were spent traveling around Jamaica performing on hardcore dancehall stages, and it was here where he would develop and nurture his talent as a reggae artist and MC. For KGenius, his modes of expression are not limited to singing and dancing; his affinity for both as an art form led him to dedicate himself to mastering the guitar and drums later in his career.
In 2010 KGenius launched CityLine Open Mic in Brooklyn (youtube.com/user/CityLineOpenMic) with the intention of bringing the community together through positive artistic measures. KGenius set out to capture the essence of the old teachings of helping the community to build a better society. To further this mission, KGenius volunteers his talents to the youth and elderly travelling to various NYC public schools, colleges and nursing homes to share the message through the music.

KGenius’s debut EP titled ‘Disclosure’ was released in 2010, and is available across all major streaming platforms. KGenius filmed, directed and edited the music video “Watch the Struggle” from his Disclosure EP, which features R. Steele & Ethiopian.
KGenius’s second EP, ‘Deeply Rooted’ was inspired by old school reggae foundation music, and also served as his first ‘live’ EP recording. This was a pivotal milestone for KGenius as it allowed him to capture the intensity of his live show in an album format. The music video ‘Cool It’ (also filmed, directed & edited by KGenius) from the ‘Deeply Rooted’ EP features appearances by Skelly (from Israel Vibration) and Meta Dia (from Meta and The Cornerstones).
KGenius has notably toured with Ya Kid K (Technotronic) across the USA, Puerto Rico and Canada, as both an opening act and a backup dancer. He recently played at Bard College alongside his 8-piece reggae band, which attracted rave reviews. Other names he has performed alongside include Third World, I-Octane, Flex Crew, Mutabaruka, Tasha T, Sister Nancy, and ‘Mbalax Super Star’ Titi from Senegal.
He currently has 2 singles in the works that are set to be released sometime in 2020. Further release details to come soon.
KGenius’s intent with music is as pure as it gets. Music is a gift from God that KGenius hopes to share with the world. Understanding music’s capacity to make a difference in others’ lives is at the core of everything KGenius does, and it shows in his music.
