Maurice (Moe) Whitsett: Born in Detroit, I started playing the piano at the age of 11. I loved music in school even more than my other two passions of playing sports and art.. As a teenager, I started a local band called Blessed, a gospel group with my brothers and cousins. We did a lot of concerts and musicals around the city and state, which landed us on some big gospel tours with The Winans, Rance Allen, and Vanessa Bell Armstrong, just to name a few. My music teacher at the time was Michael Brooks, of Commissioned, who introduced me to the road life through touring. It was Michael who got me started playing on a professional level, and I'm very grateful. Earl Wright Jr. was also very key in my development and is still my mentor to this day. After experiencing the road with several gospel artists such as Fred Hammond, Witness, and Commissioned, I moved on to the big time, some would say, to R&B tours with the help of two of the most prominent cats in the touring industry today, and also from the D, Kern Brantley and brother Valdez Brantley. As musical director for Aaliyah, we did several tours with Keith Sweat, Blackstreet, and the Essence Fest, etc. We also toured overseas to Japan, Germany, and London. I finally came back home to my gospel roots where I completed my touring days with Donnie McClurkin, Kurt Carr, Lexi, Men of Standard, and Commissioned. I've also had the chance to write and produce with some great artists such as Commissioned, Virtue, and William Murphy III. Currently, we are in the final stages completion on my debut cd which features Detroit’s own Randy Scott (sax), and Lin Rountree (trumpet), and Bridgeport Conn native Jonathan Dubose Jr (guitarist). I hope to create a style of music that's inspirational and timeless. Stay tuned.
