Testimonials:
"Montreal’s prog/core upstarts Red Skies do a solid job of trying to be different. They actually offer up something that is both quite familiar and somewhat refreshing [...] What Red Skies does so much better than most of their peers is offer up something that is deliciously, lip-smackingly heavy yet wonderfully melodic. [...] Just about every song features a neck-snapping riff or groove. On the prog front, Iron Sun is an ambitious undertaking, telling the story of a civilian on the brink of collapse from those more interested in profit than the planet’s survival. The songs do a good job of telling the story, and the liberal use of melody (both vocally and in the guitars) helps unify the songs together. Like the best concept albums, Iron Sun is definitely best as a whole instead of as individual parts. [...]
Overall, this is a fantastic progressive metalcore release from a rising talent. Red Skies does a great job of working within the now standard “djent” template and offering up something that feels somewhat fresh. Regardless, it’s a Hell of a lot of fun and engages the listeners through its lean run-time."
-New Noise Magazine (2016)
"Everything about this album is amazing. The guitars are diverse and powerful, the drums, exciting and consistent, the vocals, emotional and well-rounded. From melodic solos to mindless chugs to power chords to groovy riffs, from death metal growls to monotone screams to soaring clean vocals to plain shouts, from skull-crushingly heavy deathcore to catchy metalcore to introspective piano interludes, Iron Sun quite literally has something for every fan of the genre. Red Skies has created an album that is as diverse as it is cohesive and is guaranteed to blow your mind."
-Reddit's "Metalcore Spotlight Saturdays" (2016)
"I think what impresses me more than the idea behind Iron Sun is the clear passion behind it. The words above paired with the impressive level of work on the music from such a young band is nothing short of admirable. The production is as lush and full as most major-label releases, and without feeling compressed or overdone. This album was clearly their baby, and it has a bright future ahead. [...] You should be glad to hear that every aspect of the compositions themselves reflect the level of care put into all other aspects. Guitar lines are insanely catchy, heavy, and fun [...] The styles all work together quite nicely within the shifting fabric of technical drumming and intense guitarwork. And while I often see frontmen with this kind of range excel in one area while falling quite short in another, Cody and Justin manage to soar high in all of them. [...] Red Skies serves as a strong example of how far you can go without heavy support. [...] All of this adds up to an album that is equal parts enjoyable, musically proficient, and emotionally relatable [...] If you are a fan of the genre, I'd be surprised to see you walk away disapointed."
-Metal Trenches (2016)
"The aforementioned lead guitar is actually amazing. If you are a person who likes shredding, I highly recommend this album. Seriously, the solos are fucking cool! [...] the vocalist is fantastic. Just saying."
-Mind The Music T.O. (2015)
"Many have said that the age of riffy metalcore is dead. To you naysayers, I preach to you that your savior has come, and where there was once a storm, there is now Red Skies. [...] Metalcore is alive and well, and the fact that it’s coming out of my hometown of Montreal couldn’t make me happier. When you typically review a record, you mention a few highlights at best. THIS ENTIRE THING IS A HIGHLIGHT. Jerk offs aside, everything about this record is what every metalcore fan wants. It’s original but consistent. Each part, from front to back, is grilled to perfection."
-Bucketlist Music Reviews (2015)
"Thematically, these guys have also aced their game. They know how to blend music and presentation to a tee, almost developing a narrative around what they do. When it all comes together, it makes for a brilliant experience. All of this is evinced in full on the Red Skies debut album “Iron Sun”. [...] This album isn’t merely music – it’s a venture for the ears worth taking."
-The Circle Pit (2015)
-MetalUniverse.net (2015)
"[...] I have been waiting for something like this to come out for a while now. [...] All nine songs are original and deserve a listen. Personally, [I think] other metalcore bands should listen to this and take notes."
-Montreal Rampage (2015)
Bio:
The end of a time and the beginnings of something greater; that is what Red Skies stands for and what its name means to the band members that make up its sound.
From humble beginnings in 2012, the group came together to create a musical style of their own with nothing but their creativity to limit them. Fast, catchy and heavy, their E.P. Identitas (2013) stands as a testament to their reputation as a staple of the Montreal music scene. In the short amount of time the band has been around, they already had the chance to share the stage with many established acts, including: Architects, Enter Shikari, The Acacia Strain, Stray From the Path, Volumes, Being as an Ocean, My Ticket Home, Amity Affliction, For the Fallen Dreams, Obey the Brave, Heartist, Smash Hit Combo, Your Memorial, The Plot in You, The Contortionist, Counterparts, Fit For An Autopsy, Intervals and many more.
In 2014, their hard work was recognized by a large panel of judges coming from all corners of the music industry (Evenko, Extensive Enterprises, The Gazette, Asher Media Relations, etc.) at the "En Route Vers Heavy MTL" contest, during which the band made it all the way to the finals at Virgin Mobile Corona Theatre, under overwhelming participation from the crowd and positive feedback from the judges.
Red Skies continues to push the limits of their identity and sound, striving to create a place for their art and a name for themselves. Their debut record "Iron Sun" (10/13/15) has already received many critical acclaims and keeps doing so as the band spreads their fresh new sound to the masses.

"How many times do you think a band should get some kind of notoriety on a medium before it attains its highest honor? Sometimes once, sometimes twice; sometimes after six performance reviews and an album review. Bucketlist is a big fan of Montreal’s West Island wrecking crew Red Skies, and today we finally gave the boys their due diligence as our coveted November Feature Artist."

"Here we have something truly great. Red Skies is a band from Montreal on the rise. Their approach comes down to expertly blending elements of Progressive Metal and Metalcore with just a touch of a Hardcore sound on the side and a heaping helping of creativity. Thematically, these guys have also aced their game. They know how to blend music and presentation to a tee, almost developing a narrative around what they do. "All nine songs are original and deserve a listen. Personally, other metalcore bands should listen to this and takes notes. Red Skies took a bit of everything of what the industry is doing but nothing is overused. Breakdowns, electro, and cleans vocals really blend well overall in each of each songs. I found myself head-banging at the heavy parts and really appreciated the melodic aspects. Overall it's a great album. If I had to give a grade, I’d say 9 out of 10, only because I don’t want these guys to get over-confident. Ha ha."
