Smells Like Grunge, the Nirvana Tribute is the premier Nirvana Tribute band based out of West Palm Beach, Florida. They take you back to the early 90’s when grunge rock ruled and Nirvana were the kings. Smells Like Grunge (SLG) is more than a show, it’s the ultimate Nirvana experience you won’t find anywhere else. Complete with costume changes and and an MTV style umplugged portion of the show, SLG puts on the illusion of Nirvana taking the stage. “The three band members take on some of the original act’s appearance, like eerie ghosts” - C. Townsend Rizzo, New Times.
With a long set list that includes mainstream radio hits as well as diehard fan favorites, SLG’s list of songs range from one Nirvana studio album to the next, spanning the band’s short lived career.
If you missed out on seeing Nirvana live back in the day, this is the closest you will come to the real thing. Musicians Justin Hucker (Kurt Cobain), Jay Scott (Dave Grohl) and Hector Diaz (Krist Novoselic) will transport you back in time and let you experience Nirvana, the way they were meant to be remembered.

“Legacy: A Kurt Cobain Tribute Concert”
Here’s a fact that will make you feel old: Kurt Cobain died 21 years ago this weekend! For Nirvana fans, April 5 and the days around it are always a bit melancholy, but there’s no better way to mourn Cobain’s death anniversary than by celebrating it—which in this case means knocking back a craft beer and rocking out to Smells Like Grunge, our area’s pitch-perfect Nirvana tribute act. This trio specializes in Nirvana’s B-sides and deep cuts in addition to its hits, often reviving Nirvana songs you probably forgot Kurt, Dave and Krist ever recorded. Close your eyes, and you’ll think you’re being transported back to 1992. The night also includes a performance by the “Anarchy Cheerleaders,” presumably paying homage to Nirvana’s iconic “Smells Like Teen Spirit” video.

"I interviewed two of the three guys in Smells Like Grunge, South Florida's Nirvana tribute act, for a feature on our September/October issue (available now). But I'll finally get to see them perform this Friday, Aug. 22, at the Vintage Tap (524 W. Atlantic Ave., Delray Beach). They perform like the reincarnation of the groundbreaking alternative band, playing everything from chart-topping hits to posthumously released obscurities, and vocalist Justin Hucker even dons a blonde wig and adjusts his guitar-playing abilities to embody Kurt Cobain. The show is free and begins at 9 p.m."

We had our first show with our new "Kurt Cobain" after the departure of our former lead vocalist/guitarist, Nick. No bad blood between any of us. His leaving the band was purely because of Nick's moving to New York. We wish him the best.
But since the show must go on, we've welcomed in Justin to take his place. We are confident after tonights performance that he will be with us for years to come.
Expect an excess of thrift store flannel, floral Doc Martens, and teenage angst this weekend when South Florida's premier Nirvana tribute act Smells Like Grunge rolls into Lake Worth's Speakeasy Lounge. We caught up with the trio a few months back where we gleaned that the act's drummer, Jay Scott, could be a solid Dave Grohl stand in and that lead singer Nick Rotondi has Kurt Cobain's cathartic howls down pat. Bassist Hector Diaz, who does a pretty convincing Krist Novoselic on stage told us the band will be performing a 90-minute set on Saturday with ''all the hits," and peppering in "some more obscure tunes for the die hards." The group covers the entire gamut of the storied grunge act's career, performing everything from the early Bleach years through bits of In Utero and even a MTV Unplugged tune or two.

Smells Like Grunge, the Nirvana Tribute Band is all about staying true to the band they imitate so well. ”We are putting on a play of sorts, trying to let people experience a real Nirvana show experience.” said frontman Jay Scott. That experience is something that you can expect from one of their shows, even down to the looks. SLG is one of those tribute bands that gives respect to the original artists by preserving the music as it was meant to be played, as well as delivering an experience that Nirvana fans are sure to enjoy.
