From Columbia, SC is where a talented and gifted rap artist was discovered. Derrick Washington, better known as J.O.D, grew up in a single parent household and is the first of five children. Music influenced Washington to overcome life challenges. Washington is a graduate of Eau Claire High School where his love for writing music and making intensifying sounds began. Derrick is influenced by hip-hop artist such as Run DMC, NWA, OutKast , Jay-Z and Nas. These influences caused J.O.D to travel the music industry road to success. Constantly, listening to many different types of music, but remaining focused on the hip-hip industry, allowed J.O.D to release a new vibe of music. Quickly developing a coordination of writing and piecing words together helped Washington gather attention from crowds at various “open mic” events that in return, put Derrick on the map throughout the state of South Carolina. By networking with radio personalities the opportunity for the ears of the world to experience the sound of J.O.D was ever present. By this time, J.O.D was on top of his game with his lyrics and professionalism.
The name J.O.D came from his younger brother who passed away eight years ago in a fatal car accident. This unfortunate death gave Derrick the ambition to conquer everything he dreamed of achieving. Washington states, “there is no mountain that I cannot climb and no valleys that I will not be able to go through.” The biggest is yet to come for this tenacious, talented artist. In 10 years from now, the past will fade away and the future will be ever-present, with Derrick “J.O.D” Washington leading the way.
