Who We Are:
In February 2013, audiences in West Michigan first heard The Carboys crank out their particular breed of Americana-tinged alt-country. Since the band's humble beginnings as a group of busking buddies and backing musicians, founding members R.J. Nordlund (Guitar, Vocals) and Anthony Emery (Banjo, Guitar, Horns, Vocals) first teamed up with drummer and mandolin player Charlie Merkel to fill out their sound. With the addition of Alayna Plews (Vocals) and Matt Kuczynski (Lead Guitar) in the fall, and Bryan Van Kampen (Bass) in 2014, the The Carboys' current lineup was created.
The Carboys' music is rooted in a deep passion for Michigan, craft beer, and an honest good time. With influences ranging from Bob Dylan, the Band and Noah Gundersen to Tom Waits, Wilco, and Uncle Tupelo, the distinct sound of The Carboys have been enjoyed regularly by audiences in many of West Michigan's best-known venues, including:
and many others. In addition, the Carboys have performed at Hollerfest in 2014 and at Hoodilidoo Music Festival in 2013.
On April 26th of 2014, The Carboys released their debut self-titled album at Founders Brewing Company. The album can be downloaded via Bandcamp, Itunes, Amazon, etc,.
