The Offering was started in Richmond, VA by Andrew Cooke and Charles Pinto during the summer of 2005. The duo had played in bands for several years, but this was their first outing as a two piece. The band was conceptualized to be a swirling mix of dripping effects in the styles of My Bloody Valentine and The Jesus and Mary Chain with the pop sensibility of the early Phil Spector recordings. A driving, hypnotic drum machine beat provides a template for the band's songs, often taking on a life of its own and creating a unique experience to which a live drummer might contribute somewhat differently. Generously reverberated yet splendidly melodic guitar coupled with fuzzy, rich, and deep bass guitar provides the backdrop for a tandem vocal style as low and droney as it is melancholic and harmonious.
The Offering has released a s/t LP in 2007 as well as a five track EP in 2009. Their upcoming release will be in the form of an LP titled "Re".
Past, future, and current members of the band include Andrew Cooke, Charles Pinto, Chris Critzer, Billy Noom, and Paul Baker.
