Tony Ramey hails from Kenova, West Virginia, and cut his musical teeth in the Tri-State area of Ohio, Kentucky, and West Virginia playing in country cover bands. He was encouraged to come to Nashville in 1995 by legendary record producer Buddy Cannon (Kenny Chesney, George Jones, etc.), with whom he would collaborate in the studio early in his career.
A poet at heart, Tony began writing at the young age of ten, learned to play guitar and put his words to music when he was sixteen, and sang and wrote his way through the Master's program in English Literature at Marshall University before he took the next step and headed to Nashville. Since then, Tony has had hit songs and gold record awards for tunes on albums cut by George Strait, Trisha Yearwood, Doug Stone, Craig Morgan, John Michael Montgomery, Easton Corbin, and a host of others.
Tony has also recorded and released five records as an independent artist and currently travels all over the country playing and singing his songs. He is now based out of Dallas, Texas, and is a Ford Motor Company branded artist. He will be featured on a Curb Records soundtrack The Last Ride due to be released in fall of 2012. The movie is slated to be in theaters in June 2012.
An update on The Last Ride: The independent film is slated to be released officially in select theaters across the country and on pay-per-view and on-demand in June. The soundtrack on Curb Records will be available with the release of the DVD.
The release of the new film The Last Ride is slated for October in select theaters across the country. The film, starring Henry Thomas (of ET) all grown up, is an historically accurate account of the last three days of Hank Williams' life. The car ride in the powder blue Cadillac afforded the writers and director Harry Thomason the material to take what they have called a "snapshot" of Hank's final tour through West Virginia to Ohio. Tony's song is the title cut featured now on the website www.thelastridefilm.com. Curb Records has co-ventured with Benjy Gaither, music supervisor on the film, to release the soundtrack with Tony's voice and Jeff Silvey's production.
Tony Ramey will be opening for Glen Campbell on one of his intimate farewell tour dates on December 11, 2011 at the Keith Albee Theater in Huntington, WV. Tony says it's a "rare opportunity not afforded many artists in their lifetime."
Tony's new album is in the works and should be available before the end of October. The featured song will be his upcoming soundtrack release (alternate production) for the film The Last Ride. Tony says the album's "variety" should capture the attention of most country music lovers who are looking for something fresh in the genre.
Sources have it that Tony has just landed a major cut with a yet another hit artist whom Tony asked to keep unnamed until the song's release. This mystery artist's album should come out around the first of the year. We'll keep you posted!
