Who Is John Lee?
John Lee was born Johnny Lee Ross Jr. on November 3, 1985 in Fort Lauderdale Florida. He is the oldest of 8 siblings. John Lee's father was in and out his life for a while, and forced him to experience what the street life was about. The rapper was raised by his mother Cynthia Shouler who was only a teenager when she had her beloved son. Co-parenting was done by his grandparents.
Growing up in south Florida, young people are forced to grow up at a rapid pace and are exposed to many of life's beautiful features as well as it's grotesque flipside. Later on John Lee moved to South Carolina. As a young child, John Lee found street life to be very intriguing and was drawn into it. With that being said, he decided to participate in gang related activities such as street fights, shootouts and fast money. All of that came to an end when he wound up behind bars. John found himself on 23 hour lock down for over three months fighting for his freedom. He then realized change had to come quickly. His best friend who was a talented rap artist was tried, convicted and is serving an eight year prison term. Being on lock down with a close friend, John made a promise that once he returned to the outside, he would start a lucrative rap career. Under his friend's influence, John Lee began to test his skills. Something that he never ventured into, he now had to carry on a promise that he had made. Not knowing how he would keep his promise, but always having a belief in God, he decides to ask for a talent beyond measures concerning music. John Lee started writing songs. Now his gripping lyrics are a true testimony of life in all aspects through the eye's of a survivor. His lyrical autobiographical songs are evidence of the talent South Carolina has to offer.
