B Lee Brooks is his stage name but he was born Verenzo Holmes in Augusta, Ga. Known to the streets in the 90’s as “Buddy Love” and “Buddy Lee”. Loving hip hop music as a young teen came natural. The love for all music genres came from his mother Sylvia Holmes and other older family members which gave him his identity and diverse musical sound. B Lee Brooks studied sociology, computer technology and customer service at Middle Georgia College. Growing up an avid athlete he was a boxer at the Augusta Boxing Club, he wrestled, and was a speedster and excelled as a track and field athlete. That’s the nice nice-guy side of BLB but like a lot of inner city artists the pitfalls of making “fast” money in the neighborhood he spent most of his childhood Old Savannah and 12th. After receiving a lengthy prison sentence of 30 years BLB didn’t just sit idle, he read everything he could get his hands on, he worked out daily to keep his body in shape because he knew some day that he’d be performing on big stages and he wouldn’t let energy and stamina be his weakness. He also worked tirelessly and religiously on his case and after 12 years, B Lee Brooks won his appeal, the case was overturned and he was released. Since his release from GDOC his same work ethic that gained the very freedom he has today he has released his full album “Strange Fruit’. Strange Fruit was financed with a 9-5 job, in inclement weather at a lumber yard, with no handouts and no “fast” money. Strange is an album with a long list of hit after hit. From the hit anthems with heavy bass lines and chanting hooks ‘Add That Up’ and ‘Money Change Faces’ to melodic hooks with songs like ‘Let that be the Reason’, ‘Long D’, and ‘Sober’ or just get to the club bangers with songs ‘Believe it or not’, ’Already’ ‘Say less’, ‘Cutthroat’ and ‘Full throttle’.
