This world was not yet ready for an alien-like mechanical watch without hands, without a crown, and without a dial that told time.These are, without question, three of my favorite watches of SIHH 2017 so far. They're fun, wearable, reference the past without being straight vintage re-issues, and, importantly, are well-priced. They are not strictly limited editions, but Jaeger-LeCoultre will only make them for Cartier Ballon Bleu the next year, so production will naturally be limited. We'll have a full in-depth look at these watches for you soon, but just had to share the highlights with you now.As things get complicated, they also get rarer. While the ultra-thins are pretty easy to find and really not that exciting, some have estimated only 450 perpetual calendar chronographs were made during this era of Blancpain across all metals. You can bet there are fewer split seconds or minute repeating QPs.



Another wonderful feature of this new MontBlanc Star Classique Vacheron Constantin Overseas Ultra-Thin is the dial.Using this watch for what it was designed to do, also meant it needed proper servicing.



The RR280 was used for the railroad watch by Longines (that was used by the Canadian railways for example) and was a modified version of the regular caliber 280. It had an additional hacking feature, a swan-neck regulator for fine adjustment and it was regulated in 5 positions.
