Originally from Brooklyn, New York, Cherry Soul is a powerhouse rock and roll trio that draws on many different influences ranging from Blues, Jazz, Fusion, Grunge, and more. Formed in 2018, the band strives to breathe life into the genre of rock and roll by acknowledging the past while looking toward the future. Inspired by the music of John Coltrane, the Red-Hot Chili Peppers, and Soundgarden, Cherry Soul’s mission is to create a signature blend of sounds that combine Grunge, Rock, and Blues with elements of jazz improvisation. Having roots in straight-ahead jazz and performing music from the Great-American songbook as well as being drawn to improvising on the modal-music of John Coltrane, Mccoy Tyner, and Joe Henderson, Cherry Soul spawned from the idea of incorporating the spontaneous elements and language of jazz improvisation and putting it in the context of grunge and rock music. Founded by the unique collaboration between Jake Pardo and Ruben Espinosa, the Cherry Soul sound developed by using Rock influenced original compositions and songs as vehicles for improvisational exploration and experimentation.
Although Jake Pardo and Ruben Espinosa had met in South Florida, the band’s concept and inception occurred in Brooklyn, New York. Cherry Soul regularly performed at Rockwood Music Hall, Freddy’s Bar, Shrine World Music Venue, Arlene’s Grocery, Bowery Electric, and the 3rd Avenue Festival in the East Village. Cherry Soul is currently working on expanding their catalog to record a full-length EP comprised of originals recorded at From Jekyll to Hyde Records. Fully cognizant of the many opportunities and challenges that lay ahead, Cherry Soul is on a journey to share high quality rock music and be part of a new wave of musicians committed to revitalizing a decaying genre.
