Dion Hood is a native of Gadsden, Alabama and currently resides in Dallas, Texas. He is a graduate of Alabama State University Theatre Arts Program and is the Director of Fine Arts at Universal Academy in Irving, Texas. He is also the Founder/Artistic Director of Future Generation Artist a multi discipline arts organization that provides performing arts activities & performances to school districts across the DFW Metroplex. He is currently the Artistic Director for BESE SAKA Tours Theatre Company (Milwaukee, WI), and also the Drama & Dance Coordinator for TPW Ministries (Birmingham, AL). He has also taught at the John Robert Powers International School of Modeling/Acting, and was the Image Consultant for Platinum Artists Hi-Five,
Dion has written and directed over 50 children and professional theatricalproductions. Some of his most memorable works and performances include:“ Bubbling Brown Sugar”, “The Wiz”, “Fame”, “High School Musical”, “The Sounds of Motown”, “Please Save Me I’m Lost”, “The Nutcracker”, “The Ebony Nutcracker”, “Lo Down Dirty Shame”, “Tears Of A Hurting Woman”, “Pieces of A Dream”, “Broadway Our Way”, “Renaissance Man” at the University of New Mexico—Albuquerque, and “The Apollo” to name a few.
In 2009, Dion, was the first African American to ever win the Best Actor Award and Best Stage Play for the Texas District 18A 1A UIL One Act Play Competition for directing the Universal Academy’s Theatre Arts Program in “Antigone” and for the past three consecutive years he has received the same honors for directing “The Amen Corner” (2010), “A Raisin in the Sun” (2011) and “Fences” (2012). Also in 2009, he was the first Texas director to compete in the Musical Theatre of America Competition in Fullerton, California. MTOA is a national competition held annually with over 2000 participants for actors, singers and dancers and professional workshops at Disney Land. Universal Academy won First Place in the Jr. High & High School Vocal Solo Competitions, 3rd in The Musical Production Competition, and The Best Overall Dance Award.
He serves on the Board of Directors for Marvelous Joy Productions (Waco, TX) and New Life Ministries (Dallas, TX) and is currently on the Advisory Board of: Elroy Roberts Productions (Ft. Worth, TX), and BESE SAKA Tours, Inc. (Milwaukee, WI). He has served on the Board of Directors for Hollywood Enterprises (Dallas, TX), In-Depth Entertainment (Ft. Worth, Texas), and Bethlehem Word Church, Inc. (Dallas, Texas).
Dion has ministered across the United States and throughout the nation of Japan spreading the Gospel of Jesus Christ and recorded lived as a guest solo artist in Japan at“, Japan Fire1”, “Japan Fire 3”, “Japan Fire 4” and he was the Director of the Japan Fire “Shake Loose” Dance Workshops & Concerts with TPW Ministries.
