About Me:
I come from a musical family; my father is a guitarist and he used to run a music school in my hometown of Hull, East Yorkshire. Although I was interested in music, I didn't start playing drums until I was 10 or 11. I had a few lessons, then promptly gave up as soon as it got difficult! Thankfully a few years later (at 16), some friends encouraged me to start playing again so I could join their band.
Once I'd figured out I wanted be a musician, I did every gig I could. I even took on a weekly residency at the Royal Automobile Club in London, while I was still living in Hull! I also played with Jimmy James and The Vagabonds for a while. I reached a point where I felt I should study at college but I had to wait until I was a 'mature student' to apply, because I had no formal qualifications.
Eventually, I got to study Jazz at Leeds College Of Music. While studying at Leeds, I continued to tour in the UK and Europe, I was house drummer at Lincoln Theatre Royal and I did a fair amount of recording work for P&O Cruises. I also got my first few professional arranging jobs. I remain very grateful to my tutors, who showed a lot of understanding, it has to be said!
After I graduated, I kept working as a drummer, percussionist and arranger. In early 2011, I had a 'surprise promotion' while I was working on an arena version of [60's rock musical] Hair. During rehearsals, our Musical Director had to leave. I was asked to take over, so I suddenly found myself in my first 'official' MD job: a run of shows in a 14,000 seat venue (Ahoy, Rotterdam). That was pretty nerve-wracking! I was glad just to get to the end, but it went really well and I got to MD and play drums on the subsequent European tour, too.
Since Hair I've been asked to act as MD for more productions and bands, I've been working much more closely with vocalists and studying vocal techniques and styles. I've also been doing some sequencing and production work.
I enjoy my work and I'm a very passionate musician. I love to share the feeling of making music, both with my fellow musicians and with an audience. It's important to me to try and respect both the music and the audience in everything I do. I'm a lifelong music student and I'm always trying to improve.

I'm currently writing orchestrations for a new show from Sisters Grimm, producers of the Grammy-nominated Inala.
Voices Of The Amazon is a beautifully compelling dance and music experience about love and our global reality.
Set amidst the lush landscape of the Brazilian rainforest, Voices Of The Amazon follows the story of Beleza, a water spirit from the Amazon river, whose search to cure her dying sister takes her on a life-changing journey deep into the forest. Entranced by the beauty of the natural world, her eyes are soon opened to the realities of deforestation and the devastating loss of renewable medicines and plants.
Jeremy Irons lends his voice as the narrator, amidst a sensational musical score composed in collaboration with Brazilian songwriters and world-renowned percussionists Olodum. Performed by an exceptionally talented company of 16 dancers, singers and musicians, including The Royal Ballet's Nathalie Harrison, this unique production bursts with live music, song and dance on stage, fusing ballet, contemporary and capoeira.
Voices Of The Amazon promises an exhilarating live experience, embracing the true spirit of Brazil.

Last night, Sensual Dreams opened to a full house at The Hippodrome Casino in Leicester Square.
The show tells the story of a man who falls asleep and wakes up in an imaginary world filled with seductive women and men teasing and playing with his emotions. As he attempts to interact with his dream he realises he can produce magic.
"The power of love and romance is tastefully explored and brought to the stage."
The man's eagerness finally pays off as his dreams come true and he is able to interact with the figures from his dream in a beautiful and romantic conclusion.

Just days after the Under The Bridge video arrived from Get Funked, here comes some footage from the lovely people over at TEC Entertainment in The Netherlands, showing a snippet of the Tina Turner tribute show we did at the GelreDome Stadium in Arnhem last December.
It looks like it was fun - I can hardly remember the gig: there was so much involved in preparing for opening night that the shows themselves just flew by. Seeing the video has reminded me how much fun it was to work with everyone, though. I haven't forgotten that!
There's a clip over on the Videos page. It's not long, but it's just enough to give a sense of the enormous energy and scale of the show. Here's hoping we get to do it again soon!
Get Funked's public show at Under The Bridge last month was filmed in full and it's been in the editing suite ever since! Martyn and the guys at Get Funked HQ say they're in the last stages of editing now, so expect a a full video in the next few days.
With over 2 and a half hours of music, filmed on 10 cameras, it was always going to take a little while to get to a finished product, but the guys have been working day and night to get it ready. The final edit will be up on the Get Funked website before long, but in the meantime a preview video can be seen on the Videos page.
Take a look: Under The Bridge is a great venue and the night was a real party for the audience and the band. We're looking forward to going back there soon!
Get Funked play at Under The Bridge in London tonight, in support of Stop The Traffik.

For one night only, the world's first and most controversial rock musical returns to London's West End, in support of Help For Heroes.
Starring Zoe Birkett (Pop Idol, Priscilla, Thriller Live!), George Maguire (Thrill Me and 20th Century Boy starring as Marc Bolan) and Amy Diamond (BBC's Over the Rainbow and soon to be seen as Sue in Dreamboats and Petticoats).
After a sell out run in Europe, Gary Lloyd (Director and Choreographer of the worldwide stage hit Thriller Live!) brings his production of HAiR to the Piccadilly Theatre for one night only in support of the Help For Heroes charity.
Gary said, 'I am very proud to be putting on this event in support of such an amazing and relevant charity. HAiR has become a part of all our lives and discovering what these people went through has been an mindblowing journey of discovery. The issues that arise within the piece are still hugely prevalent today so since it was created, there has never been a better time to do HAiR. The Help For Heroes charity do amazing work and we are honoured to be a part of supporting them with such an incredible piece. This also promises to be the most exciting night in the theatrical calendar so far this year!'
Dave has taken on the role of Musical Director / Orchestrator for the forthcoming BBC / Flying Music UK tour of Top Of The Pops Live.
Press Release:
Top of the Pops has been turned into a new stage musical. The live show version of the iconic television series will premiere on October 18 at the Congress Theatre in Eastbourne.
The theatre piece will contain a cast of singers, dancers, music, presenters and a live band, together with some memorable material from the BBC's Top of the Pops archive.
The show has been produced by Derek Nicol and Paul Walden, who created worldwide smash Thriller LIVE based on Michael Jackson's back catalogue of hits.
The popular production's director/choreographer Gary Lloyd will also work on Top of the Pops LIVE.
The new musical will screen vintage footage from Top of the Pops as part of a chart rundown covering three decades of hits.
Dave will be producing music for Flash Mob for its debut run at The Assembly Hall, Edinburgh as part of the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
The Show:
World Dance Management (which also lists Flawless and Dan Whiston in their stable of solely represented dance artistes), was keen to provide a creative platform for dancers from dance reality shows who, having achieved a moment of TV glory in their own right, often then lose their identity and creativity as they get signed up for West End shows and major tours to effectively join the chorus. Whilst the dancers continue to gain invaluable experience from these prestigious contracts, they no longer have the chance to choreograph and create their own ideas and these were the reasons that brought them to the public’s attention in the first place.
The production is a celebration of dance as an overall art form... dance genres are brought together culminating in a finale that includes a mini flash mob featuring the audience.
Flash Mob runs from the 1st - 27th of August. Tickets are available here.
Dave is now in rehearsals for a season in Munich at the Deutsches Theater with HAiR.
The cast includes Zoe Birkett (Pop Idol, Priscilla, Thriller Live!), George Maguire (Thrill Me and 20th Century Boy starring as Marc Bolan) and Amy Diamond (BBC's Over the Rainbow and soon to be seen as Sue in Dreamboats and Petticoats).
Dave is thrilled to be working as MD and Drummer alongside Director/Choreographer Gary Lloyd, with a wonderful band and a great new cast.
The run begins on Tuesday the 27th of March.
Dave will be working with BOSS Creative Entertainment on a program of shows at Halikarnas - The Club in Bodrum, Turkey. He will be producing soundtracks for all in-house live entertainment for the summer seasons 2012-2014.
Dave is now represented by BOSS Creative Entertainment for Musical Direction, Music Production and Orchestration work for productions and events.
