Derek Walton is a singer, songwriter, native Philadelphian and New York City resident. In February 2016, he graduated from the American Musical & Dramatic Academy (AMDA) College of the Performing Arts in New York City. He is an alum of the Philadelphia High School for Creative and Performing Arts (CAPA), where he was an honor student majoring in vocal music.
In July 2013, Derek released his debut album “White Light Portrayal,” which is now available on iTunes, Spotify and Google Play.
Derek’s soulful vocals have been compared to such artists as John Legend, Otis Reading and David Ruffin. He is a New Age R&B artist whose urge to bring a different sound to the industry is refreshing and fascinating. His profound and reflective lyrics prove that the 18-year old is beyond his years.
Derek, a former back-up singer for BriaMarie, has been cast in independent productions, high school musicals, recitals, and concerts. In 2014, he performed in New York City with Philadelphia's own The Roots to celebrate the band's partnership with Kellogg's.
In October 2013, Derek was the recipient of the Good Citizenship Award sponsored by The Youth Work Foundation.
