Erica Martinez is a proud Native American/Hispanic ARMY brat that has performed at schools, banquets, weddings, fundraisers, ARMY/ Soldier shows, Hispanic Heritage Events, Black History Month Events, churches, and talent shows through out the United States.
Erica discovered her love for the stage at the tender age of 9, while her family was stationed in Fort Polk, Louisiana. The first two songs she'd ever performed in front of a live audience were the classic hits, Mariah Carey's "Hero” and Whitney Houston's "Greatest Love of All". After a few years in Louisiana, Erica and her family were sent to Schofield Barracks in Oahu, Hawaii where she performed in various talent shows such as "Road to Fame", "Brown Bags to Stardom", "Rising Stars" and Al Waterson’s "Karaoke Nite at Fisherman's Wharf".
Once in Maryland, Erica went to a local studio to record her rendition of Celine Dion's "Immortality". The owner, Jim Kelly, was so impressed with her versatile vocal ability, love for music, and drive that he suggested she record some original/demo material and referred her to some local musician’s and producers throughout Maryland such as Dean Watkins, Scott Reiber, Beatmatrix Studios, and 4PM (famous for "Sukiyaki"). "I love experimenting with different styles. I love all varieties of music from Pop/Rock to R&B to Hip Hop/Soul and, of course Spanish music. I grew up listening to everything from Led Zepplin and the Stones to Prince and Motown, so I'm very open minded."
Already a local celebrity, featured various times in the "APG News” and "The Aegis", Erica was asked by APG's Morale Welfare & Recreation to open for Jessica Simpson's "Dream Chaser Tour" on Aberdeen Proving Ground, MD alongside Eden's Crush (Pussycat Dolls Nicole Scherzinger was part of this group), Toya, and Youngstown. Shortly following the Jessica Simpson “Dream chaser Tour” performance, Erica had the opportunity to perform as lead female singer with the band "Who Struck John", giving her the chance to open for "Life House" at Camden Yards.
Erica was named Grand Prize Winner in the "Uplifting Minds 2 Talent Competition" after she and another female performer tied and the audience was asked to vote. "I had actually competed in the competition (Uplifting Minds 2) three times before I actually won. It humbles you. You must realize that you can always grow as an Artist or Vocalist and learn from others. There's always going to be someone out there who is more talented. We as artists must support one another. There have been many times I have tried and failed. In the end, at least I can say I tried. Success is so much sweeter if you work hard for it. That goes for anything in life."
Erica is currently in the studio recording new tracks for 2014. "I've definitely grown as an Artist, Writer, and Vocalist and I want all of these things to show in the new material," Erica says of her up-coming projects. "I'm truly excited. It has been an amazing experience working with all the different producers and musicians and they have helped me become what I am today. It hasn't been easy. I am ready to take things to the next level and I want to invite anyone who wants to be involved to join in on my journey and be a part of the magic. All I want is to establish myself as a reputable artist , gain the respect of listeners and other performers, have fun, and share my love of music. With that in line, good things are sure to come my way.” We're definitlely excited to see what Erica has in store!
Erica is currently in the studio writing and recording new original songs for 2014! Please stay tuned ! Thanks for all the love and support!
