Jena Carpenter has performed with Opera Idaho, The National Theater Mannheim, The Miami Lyric, The Miami Opera Institute (MMF), and The Pfalztheater in Kaiserslautern (to name a few). Recent performances include: Mimi* and La Bergere Louis XV with MMF, First Lady in Mozart's The Magic Flute, Annina/Violetta* in La Traviata with Opera Idaho and Pamina in Opera Idaho's outreach performances of The Mini Magic Flute. Other performances include: Frasquita in Bizet’s Carmen, Lauretta in Puccini’s Gianni Schicchi, Marian Paroo in The Music Man, Laurey in Oklahoma! and the title role of Tatiana* in Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin all with Opera Idaho.
Jena has performed in the United States, Germany and Italy. Her experience ranges from Wagner to Musical Theater with repertoire including Blumenmädchen in Richard Wagner’s Parsifal, Despina (Così fan tutte), Micaela (Carmen) Adina (L’elisir d’amore), Servilia (La Clemenza di Tito), and Marianne (Tartuffe). Jena’s musical theater repertoire also includes Liesel and Mother Superior (The Sound of Music), Johanna (Sweeney Todd) and Mrs.Anderson (A Little Night Music).

This whimsical French one-act translating to “The child and the magic spells” is the first of MMF’s popular Family Opera series. In a world where furniture, fire and animals come to life, Ravel’s dreamy lyric score spins a modern fable with an ageless message. Staged as a double-bill performance with Puccini’s one-act Gianni Schicchi, families are invited to participate in free supplementary activities for children outlined below! Allow your children to experience opera and live theater in a family-friendly setting.

OPERA SCENES PROGRAM
Miami Opera Studio singers perform an intriguing program of opera and operetta dating from the inception of the art form to current works. Scenes explored come from such varied works as L'incoronazione di Poppea, Le nozze di Figaro, Corigliano’s The Ghosts of Versailles, Hansel and Gretel, The Merry Widow, Suor Angelica, Adamo’s Little Women, Carmen, Cavalli's La Doriclea, Dido and Aeneas, Les Contes d'Hoffmann and West Side Story.
Further expanding the repertoire, three song cycles in their entirety will be integrated, along with an innovative multimedia interface and staged right along with the opera scenes. The Studio scenes programs aims to find new and engaging ways to perform art song that break the mold of traditional presentations.

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Don Giovanni returns to Opera Idaho for the first time since 1999 and the first time ever at The Egyptian Theatre. Based on the legend of Don Juan, a fictional libertine and seducer, Mozart’s dramma giocoso is annually ranked among the ten most-performed operas in the world. Korean baritone Kyu Won Han (Carmen, 2014 & Tosca, 2017) performs the title role with Jena Carpenter singing Donna Elvira and a cast drawn from favorite artists of General Director Mark Junkert’s first ten seasons at Opera Idaho. The first film shown at The Egyptian Theatre, Opera Idaho’s home theatre since 2010, was the silent film Don Juan in 1927.

Join us at Cinder Wines for a gourmet three-course meal catered by Open Table Boise Catering paired with wines by Cinder and a special one-night-only performance of Jake Heggie’s opera At the Statue of Venus starring soprano Jena Carpenter. The opera is a funny, yet reflective, piece about a woman who is nervously waiting for a blind date in a museum at the Statue of Venus. Gourmet dessert auction to follow!
