Grammy-nominated guitarist Jon Butcher is one of a select handful of influential recording artists who emerged from the legendary '80s Boston music scene. 13 Internationally released albums, MTV videos, hit songs, and incendiary live touring comprise the underpinnings of a rich music career that continues today.
Jon Butcher's signature sound features his soul-infused vocals, and his guitar work reflects a skillful mix of Rock and R&B, Soul, Jazz and Americana, all of it focused through a prism built from the Blues. Jon's live performances are legendary, electrifying and critically acclaimed.
Fall 2022 will see GYPSY CARAVAN, the band and the new album! GYPSY CARAVAN features the collaborative songwriting and ensemble playing of Jon Butcher ( two time Grammy Award nominee and founder of The JON BUTCHER AXIS ), Sal Baglio ( The Amplifier Heads, Tom Hambridge & The Rattlesnakes, The Stompers) and legendary singer-songwriter Allen Estes ( The Estes Boys ). Says Jon," This is a great record, strong, soulful and above all it has its roots in the Blues. I haven't done a band collaborative thing since Leland Sklar and I were in Barefoot Servants. Making GYPSY was electric and so cool on multiple levels. And an opportunity to finally record with two of my best friends!"
GYPSY CARAVAN is 10 new songs of rock, blues and acoustic blues. It's full of rich harmonies and Jon's acrobatic and soul-infused guitar work. Better still, it's the kind of storytelling that reaches hearts, touches souls.
Sal says of making GYPSY CARAVAN, “ This record is a mix of styles that have it’s roots from the same tree. Allen and I share a love of storytelling in our acoustic performances. It’s a natural and honest progression from where I started. And recording with Jon was like being at Woodstock in '69. Jon kept saying to me 'You can leave if you want to we’re just jamming' Then played the Star Spangled Banner ( laughs) ! Working with these guys went down sweet and easy. Like a piece of cherry pie at the all night truck stop diner."

2ROADS EAST was produced in multiple studios, across multiple time zones over a period of 18mos. 2RE is a technological (though not technical) leap forward for fans of Jon's music, achieving what is arguably his finest sounding recording work yet. Says Jon, “I was aided and abetted during the recording by some of the finest players in the world, from all corners of the globe. They donated their time but most of all their incredible talent to help me create the musical color palette of 2RE. What can I say, I’m humbled and eternally grateful to have such musically gifted friends and classmates!”
The 10-new songs of 2ROADS EAST are stylistically diverse by design. Some songs pre-destined for film underscore by their cinematic origins (TRANSCENDENCE, WITHOUT YOU), others (BRONTOSAURUS, DUST) ferocious reminders of the power and majesty that electric guitar can still in the right hands. Much of 2RE will feel familiar (and reassuring) to Butcher’s long-time fans, particularly the opening track TRANSCENDENCE. It has traceable roots to Jon's debut record The JON BUTCHER AXIS and subsequent video, LIFE TAKES A LIFE (the video was one of two to break the color line at MTV).
