Stand on the Word, the infamous gospel funk song written and produced by Phyliss McKoy Joubert has never been more alive! After 33 years since its first recording it remains an international favorite amongst churches and clubs alike as well as on fresh DJ mixes and radio broadcasts.
The song was first recorded under the direction of Joubert in 1982 at First Baptist Church in Crown Heights (Brooklyn), NY. Walter Gibbons, a leading NY Producer and DJ in the 80's "underground music movement"; caught wind of the unique sound and is credited for introducing the song to master club and radio DJ’s. The song was re-recorded in studio by The Joubert Singers in 1985 on Next Plateau Records and soon flooded the funk and electro music scene with remixed and sampled versions increasing across the nation.
Of greatest popularity was a cover by The Celestial Choir; French recording Keedz, and remix by New York's iconic DJ Larry Levan and soon launched the international scenes of Europe and Japan in the late 80's. Its international commercial success continued with the release of French studio recording and video Keedz in 2008. Joubert and team infused electro-disco influences to the title track with vocals performed by The Children of God; proving to be just the right combination for France. In 2008, the French broadcast Le Grande Journal aired the song as well as the Australian TV series Underbelly. The song was re-released in 2011 and remained on the French Singles Chart for 28 weeks.
Stand On The Word has since received a Jury Award at the Cannes International Film Festival and is currently being utilized in the French Samsung Galaxy Phone commercial.
The momentum isn't stopping with this music staple. Phyliss Joubert and The Joubert Singers are soon to announce an exciting new endeavor that will keep us standing on the word!
