It is also a very good reason (or excuse) to purchase a Speedmaster - new, replika Tag Heuer pre-owned or vintage - of you don't have one yet.What's more, the sapphire-crystal caseback invites to discover the column wheel and oscillating weight decorated with a five-point star.Now, in a turbulent year almost a half-century later, that same dive watch has returned in a refreshed but unmistakably vintage-inspired style. Carrying on the lineage of the original orange Oceanographer, the new reissue is a cheeky and unusual take that offers collectors a solid dive watch with uncommon looks at an accessible price point.



There are several other timepieces on my watch list that don’t make the cut here. A Rolex Explorer ref. 1016 with a gilt dial, for instance, Tag Heuer Aquaracer is one. Still, as much as I love that watch, I think I would get the Submariner instead, and I don’t aspire to own both.When I first saw the images of the watch, I wasn't a fan of the large Marine Nationale emblem on the large keeper.I got to handle this watch the day it was released at an Oris product presentation in Colorado. I don't really need selling on the Aquis GMT formula. A dive GMT is one of my favorite mashups making for a perfect travel watch. Is it big? Sure: 43.5 millimeters across with some good girth. But it's what I expect from Oris divers, short of the vintage inspired Diver 65, and the stubby lugs with its integrated strap makes it a surprisingly wearable watch on a variety of wrists.
