They say the apple doesn't fall far from the tree. 18 year old music prodigy Chyna Doll is no exception to this rule. Born Chyna Tahjere Griffin to young parents in Newark, NJ, Chyna has blossomed into one of her generation's most admirable musical acts. And while many would like to hold Griffin in comparison to her mother, R&B legend Faith Evans, she strives to prove her individuality via her unique production and divergent lyrical style.
While most toddlers spent their days learning nursery rhymes, Chyna spent hers witnessing the creation of some of R&B's most memorable albums. Many rememeber Chyna as the little girl banging on studio mixing boards; however, years of exposure to the studio environment have led her to carry that passion into her adulthood as well. Showing signs of musical interest as early as 2 years old, Griffin credits 90s R&B for being one of her most prominent usical influences. It was known early on that the starlet was ahead of her time. At age four she began writing songs of her own, teaching herself to play keyboard by age 7 and to arrange beats by age 10. From that point on, music has been the main priority for the super talent.
Many would assume that Chyna is guaranteed a spot in the music industry. In her opinion, however, the most important thing is to work hard and earn every bit of recognition. She's currently studying at NYU's Clive Davis Institute of Recorded Music, where her daily routine consists of collaborating with some of the country's most gifted young musicians. Having already written and produced over 500 songs independently, Chyna is looking to branch out as a songwriter and producer in the near future. Most recently, she released her debut EP titled "Femme Fever"--a work entirely writen and produced by herself. With hopes of becoming as legendary and influential as the incomparable rapper/producer Missy Elliott--an act who, in her career's beginning stages, was also considered to be ahead of her time--Chyna Doll will certainly be an outstanding force in her generation of music.
