Collectivity is exactly that. A collection of like minded artists coming together. Pulling from all possible resources, influences, and inspirations to create a genuine interaction. No one is excluded from collectivity, all parts are equal.
The group has played along side many great artists. They're the primary backing band for Joye B. Moore, Anhayla, and several other artists. The outfit was a head turner on the Richmond JazzFest in 2011, performing two shows with Joye B. Moore and sharing the stage with Christian Mcbride, Aaron Neville, and Robin Thicke. They've also recently recorded a live album at Richmonds historic Jefferson Hotel. They perform at several local events and clubs including First Fridays, the Richmond Watermelon Festival, Cafe Diem, Popkins Tavern, Gibson's Grill and many more. Individually the members make their way by performing, studio work, and teaching with several local and national artists.
The core consists of Lamar Moore-Drums, Zion Charity-Bass, Ben Misterka-Guitars, Barry Reed Jr.-Keys
Horns: Kenneth Gill-Trombone, Stephen Cunningham-Trumpet
The sound is everything we dig. Heavy on the soul and funk of the 60's and 70's, concious hip hop and neo-soul, combining elements and positivity from the jam scene, with a backbone of trained jazz musicians. The compositions range from epic through composed peices to simple groovy riffed based tunes. There might be occasions of cover tunes, "I Want You Back" or "Sir Duke" may creep out in the middle of an eclectic jam. You could hear John Denver, Marvin Gaye, Biggie Smalls, The Beatles, or Beyonce at some point. Whatever the case the people will be grrinnin and gettin down.
Our main focus is that it feels good!
Peace

Many props to Barry Reed of Reed Music Group! His masterful musical ears were used to mix down our live at The Jefferson Record. The sound is super crisp, clear and open. Not to mention he destroyed the keyboards on it as well! Nice work sir!
This weekend was awesome. Collectivity played a great set at pie214cafe on thursday night. They also hosted a showcase for local talent and were delighted to be joined by Joye B Moore. Friday they had a killer show at Gibson's Grill featuring the incredibly talented singer/songwriter Anhayla. Thanks to all who came to the show!.
In other news, most of the tracks from the upcoming live at the Jefferson record are mastered and ready to be pressed. Wont be long at all. Stay tuned!
Collectivity recently played a super fun show at the beautiful Jefferson Hotel in Richmond, VA. The acoustics are amazing so we decided to record and release the show as our first record. It will be available within the next few months so stay tuned!
Thanks
