The repertoire of this autodidactic jazz singer (also a PhD holder and Comics researcher) from Rio de Janeiro shows the influence of Brazilian popular music, the French chanson and latin american rhythms, specially Argentine tango.
Former vocalist of several bands in São Paulo and Rio, Geisa Fernandes is also an awarded songwriter. Her first solo cd, produced and arranged by Francisco Falcon was released in 2013. She composed ten out of the album's eleven tracks plus inedit lyrics for Ernesto Nazareth´s masterpiece Brejeiro.
Between 1995 and 2000 Geisa lived in Germany and in Belgium and got in touch with European art scene. " I believe that the contact to various cultures was crucial for my music. All my songs are about people I´ve loved and places I´ve seen. Travelling provided some awesome experiences and a lot of inspiration."
Her lyrics deal with urban contemporary subjects, while the melodies have a touch of retro, like her looks and interpretation. The result of this mixture? Cosmopolitan and timelessly elegant. Music for careful listeners.
